Anyone noticed two things...

1. Chinese have about the best body fat levels in the world.
2. There are the first hints of the Chinese people getting fat

Just hang around at McDonalds and yo ...

This is a fresh and attempting topics. It's a pity that those junk food corporations already formed powerful lobby to undermine any health warnings.

French fries and fat kids - Asia' s next epidemic

Roger Tatoud

August 18, 2006
Asia has a new epidemic on its hands – obesity – and the food industry should accept some of the blame. Now, governments need to respond to protect their citizens, says Roger Tatoud, but questions whether they have the courage to challenge big business. While the political elite ponder their next move a coalition of five international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – known as the Global Prevention Alliance – has already pledged new action worldwide to combat obesity-driven chronic diseases. Obesity, the alliance says, ranks alongside HIV/AIDS in terms of importance and impact.

Popular belief has it that obesity only affects wealthier societies where food is plentiful: the curse of the developed world epitomized by hulking Americans that struggle to order their king-size Big Mac, French Fries and Coke without breaking sweat.

Obesity is no longer exclusive to the developed world

The reality is a very different. Obesity and its associated diseases - diabetes, hypertension and kidney diseases – respect neither wealth nor class and strike instead into the heart of every society where there is easy access to convenience food, low physical activity and ubiquitous advertisements for sugar-fat-salt-rich food.

Chinese people don't have to eat it!

No one forces anyone into McDonald's!

There is no risk to any sensible Chinese person with self-control of getting fat from McDonald's.

We can all learn from the McDonald's process - they can serve almost identical food products, at almost the same relative price anywhere in the world. This is an amazing achievement!

Also, they can serve hundreds of customers per hour during holiday periods - I can't think of any Chinese restaurant chain that could do this and not run out of supplies. Every time I go to a normal restaurant they have run out of mushrooms or duck or something and that is on a normal day. However, McDonald's never runs out of supply!

The McDonald's restaurant is only the last and small part of the McDonald's network, which includes (and employs) all the local people and factories that produce, pack and distribute to the restaurants, all the components of McDonald's food.

Those Neanderthals did something that no one else in the world had ever done before - they produced a highly efficient and elegant production, distribution and service process - applicable anywhere on this planet (not Antarctica yet!).

Oh and

"If the Chinese people adopt western style fast food they are gonna get fat at a the speed of lightning because it's western and it's junk."

is just racist because it says it is not the fact the food is high fat that will make Chinese fat it is the fact that it comes from the west that will make them fat

Stupid Neanderthals!

Yes, "Stupid is as stupid does"

My suggestion: stop fat people from getting free healthcare on the NHS here in the UK. As for China: unless fatties are costing the state money, who cares? It's their bodies, after all. And since mainland China has no free healthcare anyway, fatties won't be a burden like they are here. More fatties in China will just mean more money for undertakers and liposuction surgeons, which increases GNP. It's a win-win situation!

Parents

Ahhh, how about the parents that are taking the kids there and teaching them from a young age.

  ...

If that's what their parents teach them then the kids are suffering from some bad genes

I eat in McDonald's sometimes and I have lost 7 kg in weight in 5 months :)
