Breach of contracts/promises seems to be commonly acceptable for Malaysia people & its government  ...

Thanks for the heads-up regarding Malaysia.

As a former British colony, Malaysia had gone through the colonial era just like most countries in Southeast Asia did (with the notable exception of Thailand, but again the Thai knew how to opt out of the colonial curse simply by bending to the political winds.  Whether it was a period of British, Japanese or American political and military dominance, Thailand always kowtowed to the Big Brother, and bent over in the direction of the prevailing wind.

I have been to Malaysia twice and saw veiled Islamic women acting as immigration officers in the border areas. It is important to travel around to gain first-hand impression of nations pertinent to our reference frames.

So there are more at stake than meets the eye as far as Chinese investments in Malaysia are concerned.

I think everyone should read and re-read these two paragraphs from Mark here:

"If his ministries can take fuller cognizance of the bigger picture in the balance of things and turn everything around on a proactive mode with China, China will be able to give his Vision2020 a push that can kick-start a new economic engine which Malaysia needs all the more if its peoples are to make real progress that is being hampered by cost-of-living income traps on the one hand, and the specter of a return on the other hand to the mono-racial administration of the past government that has devastated the country's treasury contributed by taxes paid by the peoples.

As for him, and given his age, his international legacy for the small country should be to quickly commit to an intra-Asian alignment that recognizes the preeminent role China will play by the timeline of destiny."

Admittedly there is too little time left for Mahathir to realize his dreams for Malaysia especially the Vision3030.  Unlike projects initiated by China, this so-called Malaysian vision is at best a dream on paper.  Very little, if any, financial backing from IMF or World Bank.

According to several discussants in these forums, Malaysians aren't exactly the most reliable people on earth.  If all the money and financing eventually has to come from China, they would have to mortgage their country's real estate to assure repayment of the loans.

Of course Vision3030 should have been Vision2020 in the response above because by the time of Vision3030, AI in the form of tireless robots would be ruling the world and all the lands mortgaged from Malaysians due to the bad loans would have been re-assigned to space aliens.
