China currently has 850 billlion US dollars in foreign reserves.. It is believed it is going to reach 1 trillion dollars soon . How can a government spend that much money?

Since Dubai has started multiple mega construction projects, why don't Chinese government follow suit? Like building a higher building than Burj Dubai in Shanghai.

WHy don't the Chinese government build something like Palm Island(Dubai) in Shanghai too. Buidling several mega projects around Chinese cities will certainly will beautify and add pride to the Chinese people. What do you think?

What do you think of the prospect of the no 1 financial city of  China- Shanghai against new ambitious cities like Dubai or established cities like London , New York... Will Shanghai be a more attractive place for people to come? Do you think building more mega projects in these cities will is a good idea?

Why not use the foreign reserves to subsidize the peasent's agricutural products, making them competitive in the world market? Why must pour the foreign money generously into the architectual masters like Norman Foster? Why Chinese societies are now so crazy for the skyscrapers? Taipei, HK, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen are competing for the height of their buildings as if a flock of frogs are boasting their ability to expand the stomach. Pls remember the skyscrapers built in your sample city New York, serve only as the background of the city, and the core value and the leading landmark of the city should be the Statute of Liberty located in the harbor. So, let's focus on our soul before we start to tout our cityscape.

Build the Distribution

China is now the factory of the world.  To move up the next steps, China must also be the store of the world.  Instead of spending the money on brick and mortar, the resource is better directed at acquiring distribution.

Spend five or ten billion builidng an 88 cents store chain everywhere Walmart has a store.  That could mean adding $250 billion in export sales, with Chinese entities owning all the distribution profits all the way to retail.

Now that is a good use of resources.

You have to check the GDP per capita of United Arab Emirates to compare with China's.
And their  health expenditure per capita. They are very rich. Don't compete with them. China has to narrow up the gap of the have and have-not, otherwise the discontent of the poor people will create more social instability. Government should spend more on education and health care--improve the quality of the people.

Switzerland doesn't have much mega buildings. They have beautiful natural scenary , sound law system and stable political environment that attract many rich persons to live there, not just a few days sightseeing there. Small is beautiful.

Add pride to the Chinese people by building mega projects? Sounds like a poor kid who has nver had a beautiful dress, so eager to wear one then she can be proud --inferiority complex?
When the gap of the poor and the rich is so big how can we have pride just looking at mega projects?

Yep. Seems to me that the people that support such projects are the ones that don't want for anything themselves. How about asking the poor what they want, rather telling them they should be happy with what they get.

You can't send you children to school and university, get medical care for them, etc just by a feeling of nationalistic pride. The people that care about such things the most are those with too much time on their hands.
