Interesting

So does this mean that the US WOULD get involved even if there was a formal declaration? Is Washington trying to play Beijing?

Writer's real name is Lau Guan Kim.  lau_guan_kim is for commentary and analysis. He writes also under another alter ego jinseng. I will respond to good reasoned debate. Mudslingers shall be ignored. What I do not like are ignorance, stupidity, chauvinism and bigotry. The other party has as much right as I have until it resorts to insults and nuisance.

USA has no precedent for war.

USA has no precedent for siding with Taiwan.  Even in Vietnam, America sided with a country that was recognized as such by the United States and other countries.  There's no precedent for intervening in civil disputes between countries and their provinces.

The last effort at such a blatantly aggressive policy ended in the Bay of Pigs invasion.  The anti-Castro Cubans were to land a beach head and declare themselves the legitimate government of the island.  Then the USA would recognize it and invade at their request.  It didn't work 90 miles away 40 years ago.  It won't a world away today, or tomorrow.

It is irresponsible to empower the radical profit-mongering seperatists who wish to exploit the fears of those in Taiwan over the reunification process.  Hong Kong reunified and didn't even stop for a breath before continuing is economic growth.

Prosperity and great TV.  Don't knock 'em til you've tried 'em.

If Taiwan declared independence, the US would be in a sticky spot. They've pledged to support Taiwan, but they also want to maintain friendly ties with Beijing--China is a good strategic partner. It would be a messy situation. The status quo will do for now.

Shamballah, you need to lay off whatever it is you're smoking. That, or provide some credible, non-biased sources for your crazy conspiracy theories.

I'm Sure

I'm sure that the gui zi's, whether they be jia yang gui zi, or Japanese gui zi, all want America to be dragged into a war with China.  Watch them jump up and down, waving flags and demanding that it happen.

Clowns.

General Zhu put an end to that nonsense when he clearly spelled out what is to happen, should America decide to intervene.  Since then, we have not heard a peep out of even the boldest of hawks in America.  The American Congress has switched the China-bash du jour efforts to the Yuan instead.  "Give us a 30% rise or we're gonna tax you 27.5, no ifs or buts about that!!"  But no more talk of Taiwan.  In fact every time Taidu Bian sticks his despicable "gui er zi"  (son of turtle) head out, he is slapped by his erstwhile puppetmaster back into submission.

So now it is up to these gui zi clowns to howl their lonely howls on CD, and piss in the wind about America interfering.
