Taiwan Can Only Be Lost Through Complacence
Look at what extremes the Yanks are taking to quash commercial cooperation with China in even dual use areas:|
"Diversified industrial manufacturer ITT Corp. has admitted sending classified night-vision technology used by the U.S. military to China and will pay $100 million penalty, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday.
According to a written plea agreement to be filed in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, Va., ITT (nyse: ITT - news - people ) will plead guilty to one count each of export of defense articles without a license and omission of statements of material facts in arms exports reports.
The $100 million penalty includes a $2 million criminal fine, the forfeiture of $28 million in illegal proceeds to the United States, and $20 million to the State Department.
The remaining $50 million penalty will be suspended for five years and the White Plains, N.Y.-based company can reduce it on a dollar-for-dollar basis by investing in the development and fielding of more advanced night-vision technology so the U.S. military can maintain its advantage on the battlefield, according to DOJ."
Why is China still blithely buying airplanes from Boeing, which sells military aircrafts and missiles to Taiwan, seriously jeopardizing the life and safety of the brave PLA soldiers, and the national security of China?
Under the regime of the current Anti-Secession laws, China should impose commensurate fines on all entities selling arms to Taiwan, to discourage and punish conduct that can possibly damage China's national security. If you scale these numbers, the American defense companies owe China about a trillion dollars, with half of that to be suspended for five years, to be reduced on a dollar-for-dollar basis if they invest in development and fielding of more advanced technology so the Chinese military can maintain its advantage on the Taiwan Strait.
Actually, to take it one step further, a commensurate fine should be imposed on all entities that contribute to any political personage or party that promote Taidu, no matter where they are. Hit them where it hurts - in the pocketbook. That's the only sure way of preventing war.
