This post deserve a response

1) When you were trying to use some flimsy evidence to make your point, you should properly marked the source. So, others can fairly respond to your serious accusation. If we read the same post, that Korean said he/she does not fear China.

2) With little inducement, you jumped to sweeping criticism of others (or China?). The honourable thing to do is name names. Who are you talking about, and how wide is your accusation?

3) Quick to accuse China or the Chinese seems to be a charactor trait of some Singaporeans. Former prime minister Goh did it and cancelled his visit to China during the Sars crisis. Only later he had to beg China to allow he to visit in November of the same year. But the damage was done and the character was comfirmed again. Remember, former Chinese primier Zhou Enlai called Mr. Lee Kuan Yew a banana. Now you repeated the pattern.

4) Accusing Chinese chauvinism is also a favoured trick of the Singaporean English elite. This made it easier for them to wipe out the Chinese culture and to make Singapore an outpost of the West in the heart of the East. Too bad, Mr Lee now found the Chinese and Chinese language have made a comeback. The Singaporeans have to relearn Chinese and Chinese culture for the purpose of making money.

To Peter H: I second LGK's sentiments

Though I won't call them bigots, given the benefits of the doubt, they are just very misled youth.

Many so-called bigot posters love to equate party to country to people to righteousness. This sort of thoughts brew fanatism. And I hope you agree that it is not healthy.

Why is LGK a China lover - this question perplexes me. It is perhaps because of his ethnic heritage. Nothing to do with politics. It's just part of his personal history that he feels so attached to. Good for China. Bad for him, because one day if he runs into trouble, I am sure it is not the Chinese government who will bail him out.

Why suddenly you find the need to attack Singapore ? Because you find by exposing what you think Singaporeans are like it enhances your might to attack LGK and to undermind his credibility?

Perhaps you have not been on this virtual community long enough. Stay on and you shall see.

China will be a powerful country one day I hope (and it is a safe assumption, the question is WHEN). But it can do without fanatism, which does not benefit its people and can create a very unsettling feeling in the world. Now do you want to attack Sri Langka now or Malaysia (the country I am supposed to be from as far as CD is concerned) ?

I can understand what LGK has written.

I came here to learn some about China and it's people.

Unfortunately the China bigots here cause polarization and open discussion is rare.

Everybody simmer down now.

LGK, I agree with you.

As China gains power and stature, we must all act as rational human beings and not provincial yarbos in order to accomodate that change.  I suspect that may be asking a lot of some Americans and some Chinese, but somehow we'd better put some effort into finding ways to get it right.

Yes, this is an easy, sunny thing to say in light of historical difficulties, but how complicated must it be?  We ought to catch on to the virtures of cooperation while they're still so easy to comprehend.

years ago

the invaders and colonisers came, looted, plundered, killed and burnt the rice fields;  they took away the heritage, raped the women, killed the children, butchered the men....

they did not apologise.

now their kith and kin return and tell the once-hungry man in the torched field that while he has by the sweat of his brow and the sinews in his racking body saved and tilled his land again, he must now therefore eat faster.

he looks at them and asks:

'and your credentials for saying so are?'

they have no answer.

perhaps it is guilt from their past which creates the fear in them in the present.

a fear that this land will become belligerent and bellicose.

and whereforth is the historical record that this would happen?

China is the only country in the world whose land has been the battleground for two foreign powers (japan and russia).

China is the only country in the world with a fatality record close to that of Russia during the last world war.

China is the only country which had won two battles.  And retreated her valiant troops to give away the won land.

China is the only country in the world which has forgiven a Japan down on her knees, and had shown in true form that forgiveness by not asking for reparations, the magnitude of which in proportion to the death, destruction and suffering endured by her people would have sunk that island into the sea, but graciously helped her rise and excel by buying her goods.

All so conveniently forgotten.  Instead, lo and behold, they spin and spin mischief and malevolence.  First about a province, taiwan, now about a dear friend and equal sufferer, korea...

Next what?

Now, mischief's afoot again.

They are saying again:

'why don't you eat faster? faster! faster!'
'what are you doing to your neighbours?'

What next?

Enough! If we can love the culture and civilisation of China as much as we love her heritage and energy, if we can suffer with her pain of the past as much as we can celebrate her achievements of the present, and indeed the future, let us accept her for what she is, protect her from the dark designs of small minds, even sit down and eat with her at her own pace and cheer her on to become a truly unique and significant member of the world community.

China, rise, and, using the goodness in your heart as much the power of your intellect, the will of your spirit, the energy of four thousand years, show the world what a real world leader is.

Mark Wu has spoken.
