"Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It".

Much thanks to The West and its gospel of preaching & promoting the old goat Capitalism by all means and at all costs, with 4400 nuclear arsenals & 800 military bases world wide among others; today, the world's wealthiest 42 people in 2017 had wealth equivalent to the world's poorest 3.7 billion people.
-The world's richest 1% own more wealth than the rest of the global population combined. 82% of the global wealth generated last year went to just 1% of the world's population.

-The three richest Americans have the same amount of wealth as the poorest half of the U.S. population.

(source: '3 richest own as much wealth as half of U.S.' article, USA TODAY, Monday, January 22, 2018).

By the way, which famous Hong Kong celebrity reportedly said, USA is most corrupt nation?

- Jacky Chan

So why and how good old USA becomes most corrupt on earth?

Bottom line is CORRUPT dog eats dog, winner takes all, full throttle, cut throat Capitalist system in place (such as in good old USA) is to be blamed for.

For instance, in war, the goal of the USA isn't necessarily to win wars their goal is to be at war, though winning one would be a bonus.

War, destruction, murder and invasion is the USA biggest business.

While at war the taxpayer pays for armaments and other necessities of war purchased and profited from big business and banks, most owned the One Percent wealthiest Capitalist elite.

Then there is the rebuild of the countries by private companies profiteered by US private business.

America is the World's Largest Arms Inventor, Arms Manufacturer, Arms Dealer, and Arms Exporter.

America would ONLY go to regions that are rich in oil and other natural resources, resourceful bountiful nations, like Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Venezuela, N. Korea; make war and destroy everything, then reconstruct and let them pay for it, using those bounties as collateral.

Thus enriching the Elite One Percent that own the lion's share of Military Industrial and Construction Conglomerates.

Same old, lame old Capitalist Imperialist trick!

Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It.

Speaking of the centuries-long old Colonial era,
when the world was under Colonial Western control & influence:
people in Asia, [as well as in Africa, North & South America],
were killing each other [brother against brother, etc],
all because Colonial West pit one group against another,
which is the the ploy [such as, 'divide & conquer, divide & loot'],
that were regulatly used for their own Western advantages.

I'm afraid that would repeat all over again, although I hope not.

Also, remember the saying that goes,

"Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It".

To better understand more, I picked the following topic, as an example;

Speaking of which, truth is 'Slavery, Colonialism and Colonization' are all evil things done and benefited by EVILDOERS.

Moreover, 'Democracy, Freedom, and Human Rights' are just marketing tools used by 'the Rich' from the West to sell their game, subjugate and milk 'the Poor' worldwide.

Isn't that jaw dropping to know a mere fifty (50) Capitalist elites from the West have more wealth than half the world population, which is nearly 4 billions.

So what do Slavery, Colonization, Colonialism, Capitalism, and Imperialism (that The West has practice now and then), have all in common?

Because all these benefit The West a great deals. For instance, as in any sports and games one plays, if you are ahead of the game, that you found yourself in a much stronger position, and the others are weaker than you are; then what do you do? Would you play Offensive or Defensive game? Of course, you play Offensive game.

That's exactly The West has been doing, playing Offensive game that benefit them the most out of the rest of the poor world, through 'Slavery, Colonization, Colonialism, Capitalism, and Imperialism', etc.

Keep up the good work! I'm going to be spending some weeks reading books as well.

You too are a rare breed.  The pleasure is all mine.

I'm here to correct some typos:

Yet this kind of thinking has been carpeted by other Chinese bright minds, who argue that doing nothing is by no means a commendable choice when faced with thorny issues, particularly if we are talking about business leaders who need to get to grips with pesky issues with  alacrity instead of resorting to dilatory tactics or palming such problems off to someone else.

Trump's Disease can be solved by applying the precepts of wuwei 无为 as follows:

That's where many Westerners bump their heads against a rock when they talk about Laozi, and since we are on the topic please allow me to clarify this concept of wuwei 无为 before ice sublimates into water vapor without transitioning through the stage called vaporization。

I would opine that it's almost as if Alex Honnold --- the free-soloist climber who ascended Yosemite National Park's El Capitan in 2016 without any climbers' accouterment such as ropes or hooks -- stuck his left shoe into a crevice on the top granite rock and then fell off the cliff.  It wouldn't be too much of a story to tell because the ending would be too sad for the public to stomach.  Fortunately though, in the case of Honnold, he did pull through the ordeal without a scratch.

For Honnold, it was no big deal because ever since age 11, he had been practicing the art and had successfully scaled the heights of many other cliffs in all seven continents.  Still, for the rest of us, that free-soloist attempt on El Capitan, whose vertical height was equivalent to a 270-story building, was like swimming from Seattle to Honolulu.

I have found that for many Westerners, it is fashionable for them to talk about Laozi but as soon as they open their mouth, I realize there is a huge misunderstanding of what his concept of wuwei 无为 represents.  That's because there aren't that many plausibly authentic translations of his work in the West, inasmuch as it is almost impossible to understand The Enlightenment in Western history without being able to read the original literature in French.

Missing this key concept of wuwei 无为, one is liable to be missing the fundamental structural alignment of what the Old Sage meant to say in Daodejing.

Chapter 37 of Daodejing (道德经 or "Tao Te Ching" in Western parlance) is entitled "无为而无不为” and here I would like to draw your attention to Wang Bi (王弼)'s treatise on Laozi, which even to this day is the most widely accepted translation of many of Laozi's epithets written in the ancient Chinese literary form we call wenyenwen (文言文)or simply guwen(古文).  Mind you that Wang was only 24 years old when he died (226-249 A.D.) during China's Three Kingdoms period, but the prodigy was so talented that his treatise on Laozi remains the classic amongst all interpretive literature on Lao Zi to this day.

There is a palpable reason why so many Westerners are mesmerized by Laozi's philosophy.  Alone amongst the three main philosophical or quasi-religious (called quasi- because there is no concept of God here as there is in Christianity) branches -- Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism -- Daoism is the closest to the Western discipline of chemistry in its propensity to go to great lengths in trying to fathom nature's secrets.

That's why many alchemists in China -- including the ones who infamously offered the Elixir of Life to Qin the First Emperor -- were Daoists.  btw, Daoists were most famous for their invention of gunpowder which they discovered while doing alchemist experiments in the Northern Song Dynastry (960 - 1127 A.D.).

So at this juncture let us return to the aforementioned Chapter 37 of Daodejing 道德经 for the real meaning of Laozi's wuwei 无为.

The term wuwei 无为 doesn't mean "doing nothing," or else Chinese emperor Han Wudi (汉武帝) wouldn't have achieved so much during his reign in the Western Han Dynasty (西汉)in pacifying the Northern hordes known as xiongnu (匈奴) -- forbears of the Mongolian tribes.

Emperor Han Wudi was a strong believer in Laozi's wuwei 无为 ideology, and so the term couldn't have meant "no action." since he had to effectuate numerous military expeditions or pacification campaigns to solve the xiongnu (匈奴) problem.

In fact, Chapter 37 has this to say regarding wuwei (无为):

道常无为而无不为。

候王若能守之, 万物将自化。 化而欲作, 吾将镇之 以无名 之补。 镇之 以无名 之补, 夫将不欲。 不欲以静, 天下将自正。

I am sure you understand the above passage, or you can put it into a translation software to get the gist of it.

In short, what Laozi advocates is not to disturb the instinctive ability of Nature to work out problems, and Man should not attempt to disturb the ecological balance achieved by nature over many years of incremental evolution.

A sparrow does not need to be taught how to build nests, yet every sparrow instinctively knows where to find the twigs to build its particular form of nests for its young that best suits its special environmental needs.

One only needs to keep watch over himself and not succumb to the temptation to lie and scapegoat China for his own incompetence in fighting the COPID-19 virus.

In the latter case, wuwei (无为) suggests hitting the Liar's big mouth with a huge stick.  That's what is meant by " 化而欲作, 吾将镇之 以无名 之补," not inaction.

So according to the Sage, the tramp needs to watch out for the practical application of wuwei.

As always, I have a lot to do now and probably won't have the time to talk about wuwei from this point on.

Thank you for a nice discussion.

Speaking of which, truth is 'Slavery, Colonialism and Colonization' are all evil things done an ...

You are talking about Hobbesian version of capitalism in which nations, stoked by animal spirits or the law of the jungle,  jostle for their  national interests  at the expense of others.  To wit, gunboat diplomacy  and containment policy. Most Western pundits declaim against Hobbesian version of capitalism and dirigisme described by Thomas Hobbes in his book entitled Leviathan, in which Thomas Hobbes opines that  individuals should capitulate to the power of  the absolute authority of a sovereign in order to secure civil society. Thomas Hobbes also tosses out the idea of making a social contract between the ruler and subjects or an agreement whereby the ruler is allowed to issue orders and enact laws.

Other leading lights like  John Locke sneer at the suggestion that the state should adjudicate all the issues in  their own books, just like some present-day economists inveighing against market intervention and rent-seeking.   And some Western thinkers have been China's friends for years.  They are gunning for Trump's China policy, thinking that China and America should work together to promote peach instead of inciting hatred.

Therefore, please don't prejudge such issues like some fans of Fox News.  And it's imbecility for people to pigeonhole every American as China-basher, allowing for the fact that even lots of  conservatives voting for the Republican Party don't even consent to stand up for American protectionism, government coercion and  Trump's parochial thinking, let alone liberals.  What's the point of paying attention to Trump's feel-good bromides and vitriolic criticisms against his own critics? Do you think he cares about what his critics say?  Just ask CNN's reporters  trying to use the press conference to denigrate Trump.  Trump even uses such occasions to proscribe reporters working at CNN and MSNBC; his approval ratings simply  get a boost when he pulls a trick like this, since lots of Americans go gaga for macho presidents.

You know the only way in which people use to dispel racial  prejudice is through dialogue and cooperation.  It sounds far-fetched for some people; however, that's the key to building a harmonious  world for mankind and a  goal that's worth fighting for.

Trump, who's a narcissist, lives in a world detached from yours. And he  doesn't need us telling him how to be a pacifist for the common good.  He wants to be a king.

Perhaps they were trying to cover up funding the wuhan institute of virology to carry out experiments on bats as revealed in yesterday's news? US congressman Matt Geatz certainly thinks so and is demanding a national inquiry in to why the US government may well have played a part in this virus 'leaking'. .   .

Like I said, in centuries-long old Colonial era, when the world was under Colonial Western control & influence: people in Asia, [as well as in Africa, North & South America], were killing each other [brother against brother, etc], all because Colonial West pit one group against another, which is the the ploy [such as, 'divide & conquer, divide & loot'], that were regularly used for their own Western advantages.

It's all about 'Western Hegemony'.

Speaking of Colonization, do you know the fact that Second Amendment in USA was historically put in place in American Constitution, mainly to encourage slaughtering indigenous Native American people, in order to take over their homeland.

Moreover, the hidden mega genocide of indigenous Native Americans, and their population in Continents of America 500 yrs ago was around 15 millions, while European population in Europe was around 20 millions.

Today, Natives population at 15 million, while European population , in Continents of America + Europe, at a staggering 'ONE BILLION'!

For instance, 200 years ago here in USA, around 3 million Germans came, and now there are 65 millions German-Americans; while 150 years ago, around 2 millions Irish came, and now there are 45 million Irish-Americans. While 500 years ago there were estimated 5 to 6 millions indigenous Native Americans in U.S.A, before Christopher Columbus arrived, today there are only around 2 million indigenous Native Americans survived.

Imagine this scenario, if Native American people cross the Atlantic, invade and Colonize Europe, and slaughter most Europeans, and put the remaining populations in tiny reservations, for 500 long years. How would Europeans feel about it? Think about it.

All they need is their beloved motherlands back, the lands that their ancestors forebears had lived through thick and thin, endured through hardships and all for generations.

Besides, indigenous Native Americans in Colonized lands of Anglo British, Spaniard, Portuguese and Italian in North & South America, are more of the same. Kill the indigenous Natives and whoever is left, marginalize them and create artificial poverty, once that poverty becomes crime and drinking, the media points to the poor and blames them to continue to stigmatize the 'other' community, scumbags, etc.

Amazing fact that Indigenous Natives had built such great civilizations as Mayan, Inca and Aztec without outside help, and all from the scratch, and all on their own, since they had been cut off from the rest of the world for ten of thousand of years.
In other words, they actually are great and proud people.

Imagine what would it be like today if Native Americans had possessed some sort of nuclear weapons to defend themselves, and their beloved motherlands from invaders Colonizers?
The answer is they would still have their own beloved motherlands, plus their population comparable to that of European population. I've no doubt about that.

In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people. Remember, notorious global cardinal crime like Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is this another notorious Colonization still lingering on?
