Japanese cuisine has gained popularity in China in recent years, according to a Japanese trade agency.

The number of restaurants selling Japanese food in China jumped from 10,600 to 40,800 in 2017, according to the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO).

By the end of 2017, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shanghai had the most Japanese restaurants.

The growth of Japanese restaurants slowed in first-tier cities in recent years, but second- and third-tier cities saw rapid expansion, indicating that Japanese cuisine has been spreading to more areas throughout China, according to JETRO.

Rising numbers of Chinese visitors to Japan have experienced local cuisine, creating a taste for Japanese food back home in China. The agency suggests this reason is at least partly why Japanese restaurants expanded so rapidly.

Japanese food in China is but a fad, nothing great abouit it, very salty, esp the miso soup and soy sauces; the Japs suffer kidney stones from high salt in foods.
