on 'funeral strippers'
22 Feb, 2018 6:32pm

The Chinese government has announced a new plan to target funeral strippers, a trend particularly popular in the country's rural provinces.

China's Ministry of Culture says it will be cracking down on strip shows at events such as weddings, funerals and temple fairs.

The government has set up a hotline for the public to report any "funeral strippers", the local Global Times newspaper reports.

Hiring strippers for funerals is a long-time tradition in rural China, where high attendance of mourners at funerals is a sign of honour for the dead.

"Scantily clad women in sexy lingerie and revealing clothes showing off their bodies in front an electronic screen displaying a black-and-white headshot of the deceased with text reading, 'We offer profound condolences for the death of this man' are now a modern part of funerals in some rural areas of China," the Global Times reports.

"The crowd pushed to climax, roaring with laughter, whistling, applauding and cursing. As the performers saunter into the audience to jiggle their breasts and rub men's crotches, a reminder of 'no photographs allowed' can occasionally be heard."

This is not the first time the Chinese government is targeting the custom, having launched a previous crackdown in 2015.

If someone wants to hire a stripper dancing naked or with revealing clothes, how can that be against any law?

Jesus, strange things do happen in China!  Turning a funeral into an entertainment occasion with scantily clad females must be the only one of its kind in the world!  But how can that be breaking the law?  What law is broken?   If the government officilas have nothing better to do, they should be going after those who spit, litter and smoke in public  places!!

Chinese funerals are sexy events for the masses. Far more entertaining than their Spring Festival ga ...

While families believe hiring entertainment to boost attendance is a way of honoring their loved ones, the country's Ministry of Culture sees the act as more of a dishonor.
Ministry buzzkills are now targeting "striptease" and other "obscene, pornographic and vulgar performances" at funerals and weddings across the country.

Ugh, what's even the point in dying now?

So it looks like this practice will reach its climax prematurely.
