(China Plus) At the now-concluded World Gymnastics Championships in Montreal, Quebec, 16-year–old Morgan Hurd of the United States clinched the title in the women's all-around event.
The new World Champion was adopted by an American woman from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region at the age of 2, reports thepaper.cn.
It took Sherri over 2 years to complete the legal procedures to adopt Morgan, originally named Wu Yingsi, from the city of Wuzhou.

At a young age, Sherri began to nurture Morgan's gymnastics training. To help complete Morgan's gymnastics dreams, Sherri - a single mom - initiated a crowd funding program on the internet.
Morgan is hoping to compete for team USA during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That trip may also see Morgan visit Guangxi to find out more about her Chinese roots.
Sherri says she's told her daughter all about her Chinese origins. "Me and Morgan are very pleased to visit China, where she was adopted. But we have not got any information about Morgan's biological parents and we have no idea if we can find them," added Sherri.

Morgan has a large fan base in China, with her fans nicknaming her Xia Song in reference to former Chinese gymnastics star Shang Chunsong, as the two are said to look similar.

She didn't get the chance to be a champion in China. The parents were so cruel that they abandoned her and placed her up for adoption. Lucky for her to have such kind adoptive parents.
