Rubber Duck creator brings 'Bubblecoat Elephant' to Shenzhen [Copy link] 中文

A huge "Bubblecoat Elephant" sits atop a shopping mall in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, known for his playful oversized Rubber Duck sculpture, has unveiled his latest creation -- an elephant with a long trunk, in Shenzhen, a city in south China's Guangdong Province.

The outdoor installation features a huge "Bubblecoat Elephant" sitting atop a shopping mall, which opened on Thursday. The elephant's 24-meter-long trunk hangs down to ground level, and can spray water at regular intervals.

A smaller souvenir edition of "Bubblecoat Elephant" also went on sale inside the shopping mall, which promised to donate all proceeds from sales to eye-care organization Orbis China.

The Rubber Duck sculpture has been on display in many cities since 2007, including Hong Kong in 2013 and later in Beijing. The creator was also responsible for an installation of a giant panda in Chengdu, the capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province. (
