India's tourism minister is furiously backpedaling after suggesting that women who visit India shouldn't wear skirts for their own safety. Mahesh Sharma made the comments over the weekend while promoting a welcome kit that will be handed out to tourists when they arrive in India.

"There's a card in there listing the do's and don'ts. Basic things like, 'Don't go out at night alone.' 'Don't wear skirts.'" The outrage was immediate. And for good reason.

A string of sexual assaults against foreign women has sullied India's reputation.

The country has amended its laws to broaden the definition of rape to include any form of penetration; it lists out strict punishments not only for rape but also for sexual assault, voyeurism and stalking. But still, every high-profile case -- and there have been several -- brings the question to the forefront again: Is India doing enough to protect women? Is it creating a strong enough deterrent for crimes against women?

"A string of sexual assaults against foreign women has sullied India's reputation."

What reputation to be 'sullied' in the first place.

The place is too darn hot.

The people are too darn horny.

There are very few public toilets and so women have to expose themselves to pee or wee.

But they are spending heavily to buy weapons from everybody to build their military.

Restrooms?  What restroom?

You rest and I roam all over your body, that's what.

In China, the definition of rape does not include men or boys, and it does happen.
China should look to itself as regards sexual harassment and assault, especially against 'left behind' children.

It is not uncommon for men to 'upskirt' women in the Chinese metro, and more often than not, people don't intervene.

until this year, domestic violence was not a crime in China.

Is China doing enough to protect women? Is it creating a strong enough deterrent for crimes against women?

Questions like: how far did the penis insert are asked to the victim preventing many from coming forward.......source quora....
if you want something in life get off your backside, and do it yourself!! don't rely on others to do it for you

Why does the original post only mention FOREIGN WOMAN victims of Indian rapists? I am sure far more  ...

Because the Minister can not ask the Indian ladies to only wear skirts......
