ABSOLUTELY!!! I agree that they should all speak 'putong hua' when on national tv and in an officcial capacity.

i think it 's ok,nothing wrong.
You must be monolingual in English, it makes no difference to you whether dialect or putonghua is spoken on national TV.

Gov officials should talk less and work more. That way, wh ...

They have to talk to cctv reporters to let the whole nation know what they are doing in the provinces, and they must do so in putoghua, not their local dialects.

I believe that's why there are subtitles at the bottom of your TV screen... regardless of the dialec ...

The inclusion of subtitles to translate dialectd to putonghua is already a clear admission of the governments failure to promote it to its officials, and its failure to get them to promote it to the wider community.  Whats the point of having an official language when even government officials dont speak it?
