China's home-made transit elevated bus, TEB-1, conducted a road test yesterday, running in Qinhuangdao, north China's Hebei Province.

The 22-meter-long, 7.8-meter-wide and 4.8-meter-high TEB-1, driven by electricity, can carry up to 300 passengers. The passenger compartment of this futuristic public bus rises far above other vehicles on the road, allowing cars to pass underneath.

The compartment is equipped with 55 seats, several LCD TV screens and four real-time maps. A total of 20 erected handrails in the passenger area caters to different needs of passengers with varied heights during peak hours.

The new type bus has received heated feedbacks on social media and web users commented as follows:

I can't believe such a sci-fi idea comes true. Super cool! Maybe they will upgrade it and make it even longer.

It’s going to ease traffic jams.

I wouldn’t dare drive my car underneath the bus.

How do you even get a license to drive that thing?

What about bridges and elevated roads?

I think it might be too complex, causing even more traffic jams. It’ll be really scary when the bus overtakes from above.

Nice idea in theory, but when it encounters a semi and trailer or large lorry (truck) it's going to grind to a standstill.  It only looks to have about 2.5m road clearance.

Looks great and very useful for the commuters but looks like it will work only for straight roads, depending the lenght of the road
Denial, according the psychoanalysts, is one of the most primary mechanisms of defense. It consists in the attitude of denying or minimizing obvious facts of reality with which the individual can´t  cope or whose irresponsibility is unable to meet.

And I agree.

It has only 2 metres height clearance, can not go on most roads with bridges on and needs lots of space to build the raised boarding stations,

Seems to me to be a waste of money and can never be installed in any major Chinese cities without massive infrastructure changes
