The arrival of foreign stars in the Soviet Union was asignificant event. It was significant both for Soviet citizens, and for thestar. Foreign celebrities came to USSR on tour or filming, toparticipate in festivals, and some of them came even as tourists. Often foreign celebrities came to festivals

An amusing incident occurred during the 1961 Film Festival of the year. At the reception in the Kremlin, Gina Lollobrigida and Elizabeth Taylor came in identical Dior dresses. The only difference in outfits was only in belts. Taylor's belt was blue, Lollobrigida's one was red. Gina Lollobrigida was the first who left an awkward situation, greeting Elizabeth with an exclamation "What a beautiful dress!"

More than that, Gina Lollobrigida did not hesitate to ogle at Yuri Gagarin at the reception of the minister of culture Furtseva.

For the first time David Bowie traveled across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Express in 1973.
