The short answer is no. As for, if it is better than the death penalty, well, that depends on your intention. If you want people to suffer, then for you, the death penalty is no different from the life sentence without parole, and the cruelty level is about the same. Would a life sentence without parole deter crimes? For some, yes, but for everyone? No. The same goes for the death penalty and any other forms of punishment or penalty. If punishment really worked, we would have a perfect world by now.|
You have to understand that when people are willing to commit serious crimes that they know lead to the death penalty or a life sentence, it is because they are done with life. They don't see a way out for themselves, so they are willing to take whatever risks. They want something that bad.
The society that you have built is the main cause of your corruption, this society where money rules, this society where face is paramount, this society that's about getting the latest new stuff so we can keep us up with the Joneses. If money wasn't so important, would there be corruption? If people cared about other people and the society more than they cared about money, would there be corruption?
So your answer is not in more severe punishments, but in changing how the society works, getting your priorities straight, changing how people think, getting people to understand what's truly important, that people are more important than money.
So there is no easy answer but hope that everyone learns on their own good time. Eventually we all get there and we stop hurting others because we finally understand our true nature. In the meantime, if you're afraid to hand out the death penalty, you are a coward.
