Yes, Chinese potatoes taste sweet; very strange, and I am not talking about the sweet potato which is supposed to be sweet.  Why ordinary spuds taste sweet?  Perhaps they know Chinese like their foods sweet, so farmers fertilise their potatoes with sugar?
Have you noticed Chinese corn is also very sweet?

Sugar is not a fertilizer. I might be that you are eating a variety of potato that has a higher sugar level than you are used to or that the potatoes are being stored at a temperature of about 2 degrees which increases their sugar content.
(mostly harmless)

Read my post again; I was guessing they did that.  The Chinese try all means to alter the taste of their produce, including soaking their kiwi fruits in a cup of chemicals while they are growing on the vines; are you aware of that?  So I am not surprised they try to sweeten their potatoes!

That explains it!  Have never tasted potatoes overseas which are so sweet as the Chinese variety!
