Such trash as your post does not really need to be handled. Why sully my hand? No soap can remov ...

Ahh, others are propaganda lie, and yours are what? Unscrewed virgin olive oil still fresh and unspoilt in their purity, specially selected by all to enhance health credibility and roaring applause? Never have seen such outer limit dishonesty and quackery in abundance that you so shamelessly spread in these columns. They are just chains of disorganised dribbles that are siphon-off news clippings from who knows where. They go to Hong Kong and stay; nobody goes to the mainland - what kind of a craved idiot, or politely, a fool, can say things like that unless one has suffered cranial thrombosis or stroke thus lack language faculty?

I would have thought that the "bridge between China and the West" is not Hong Kong but SHENZHEN, ...

The good side about being a big country with a big population is the bigger allowance in caution upon new influences, ie there is more room for test runs.  Being realistic doesn't mean change of the ultimate goal.

Cooperation and competition are the two fundamentals in driving social development.  Development is a process of adaptation to changes. The industrial revolution 200yr back changed the world significantly.  socialism/ communism and capitalism were new ideology concepts developed in the process of the big change.  As by my understanding, socialism tends to favour the collective interest of the society's majority at the expense of the minority's, with the aim to achieve a more pro-equality pro-cooperation society, state ownership of productivity dominates, whereas capitalism encourages more competition and values the individuals interest more, private ownership still dominates just like before the industrialization.

I think it's the more unity oriented culture in China that helped lay the ground  for socialism to gain a stronger footing than capitalism in China while China was still far from being industrialized and westernized. I have the impression that many intellectuals in the west also tend to claim themselves as socialist. Scandinavia is probably the most advanced in terms of social development in the west and the system there is said to be more socialist like than capitalist. Social mobility and social development index in these countries seem to be doing better than the more capitalist countries like USA and UK.

a social system probably functions like a person. Each person has his own maintenance threshold for well being, below which he will suffer from malnutrition, illness and other malfunctioning. As a society develops, ppl's productivity and empathy level is expected to increase and its social system evolves accordingly. There should also be maintenance threshold for a social system to function properly.  Different culture renders different level of empathy in the ppl hence different threshold of maintenance for different society. a pro-unity culture should be more supportive of empathy growth which enhances co-operation on a lower cost of maintenance. a more cost effective system is more sustainable for long run. Despite China has a much later start of industrialization,  resources and productivity per capita is much lower than that in the west, socialism ticks in China. Being energy efficient is deeply ingrained in our culture.

Adaptation is a learning process of trial and error.  Hk's test run of capitalism looks glamorous on the surface, deep down the escalated greed of capital is corroding the society's equality and sustainability. Being an affluent international city benefited from both the east and west, Hk's gini index is on the high end together with poverty ridden country like Philippine.

Is Hong Kong still the Asia’s world city?

"Hong Kong topped on Gini index, expressing the great social inequality. The study reveals that “over one million of Hong Kong residents live in poverty (or about one in five)—as rents and housing costs continue to soar; since 2007, incomes in that city have gone up some 42%, yet home prices have jumped 154%”. A Wall Street Journal article described the tiny apartments as mosquito-size units. But numerous Hong Kong people today especially young generation could not even afford to live like a mosquito."
