'recently read a paper on the influence of Zhuang people on Cantonese language. It says that Zhuang people worship and respect frog, and because of frog call, they regard throat as "thinking organ". Therefore, the "throat thinking" influence Zhuang language to have lots of consonant h. Cantonese also got this feature from Zhuang.'

'That says many English speakers hates "throaty" languages.
Cantonese just got the culture of Zhuang's throaty thinking and also our language retains the most unreleased final consonant among all the Chinese languages. Hence, we may sound too throaty to be pleasant in their ears.'

'In other languages, anything produced from the back of the mouth is also referred to as "hard".

Simple physics can explain why cantonese sounds crude: Work=forcexdistance. Throaty sound means greater force needed.

A lot of sounds started with 'j' in mandarin still start with 'g' in cantonese.  Cantonese also have more difficulty in pronouncing more refined consonants like zh, ch, sh, which require more refined control of the tongue.

Cantonese is the result of chinese from the north replacing the indigenous tribal languages in the south.  Southward Influence from the north is an on-going process, not just in China but the whole northern hemisphere. Cantonese is destined to be on its way out.

Accent to ears is like look to eyes. Good look enhances co-operation, so does an accent that sounds nice to ears.  Better cohesive force, better unity. Unity is power.

The value of speech patterns labeled guttural, in other words, is already quite low in the estimati ...

"...it's a short step to Jon Corzine's "guttural politics" You mean the Jon Corzine who spent over $100 million on his US election campaigns ? Or the same Jon Corzine who mislaid $1.2 billion of his clients' funds ? Sounds more like "gutter"than guttural (?) politics to me which has absolutely nothing to do with the speech patterns of Cantonese people.

What are you on about ?
