If the rule of law is not followed then eventually any government will back their position with guns. I am sure that China is no different in this. Where China might well be different is that she appears to take a paternal approach towards government and, rather like a father, governs by the general consent of the family even if it the decisions do not always get universal acceptance.

Using force to change a government typically fails in finding a replacement government that is an improvement in the long term. It is better to improve what you have.

Hmm, democracy seems to be whatever it's supporters claim it to be. For example advocates seem to seek an association with "human rights" but the individual's rights seem frequently in opposition to the ''society's rights'' so doesn't sound democratic.
