most Chinese I know make snap judgements based on appearance and pre-conceived ideas of what foreigners are like from limited access to foreign tv.
In a third Tier city I was located, the general impression was that all foreign women were prostitutes because the locals had seen 'Sex and the City' and obviously this reflects real life (not).
it has been my experience that there is a 'hierarchy of status' depending on your skin colour: blonde blue-eyed males being at the top, Asian women (from India for example) at the bottom.
foreign women being low on status anyway.
Depending on where you are located, black foreigners are ranked quite low: in Guangzhou it is very low due to the connection between Blacks and illegal African's.
The few ABC's (American Born Chinese)  I met - called 'banana's' by the locals, just confused local Chinese

I think Chinglish is just laziness and being cheap (when written), but also a back-handed compliment.
"look we are international, we have English" but not so international as to care enough to get it right.
This is unlike Europe where great care is taken to ensure all translations are linguistically correct

sadly, this type of discrimination also exists in Japan, Taiwan, S.Korea and HK.  Employers would rather hire a caucasian even if his/her qualifications were lower than that of an Asian-American.
