Kind of the opposite take on 'it takes a village' eh?

Anyways, I disagree.  A child is not only y ...

I agree with you and Hilary! I think society (through taxation and government) should care much more for children (who, after-all are an investment for society). More cost-to-income day-care, a good lunch in every primary- and high-school, tax-paid health-care for everyone under 18 (more important than 65 and over!). That way more women could afford to have their children at their prime reproductive time.

I'll add a thought. If young people commit to a lengthy career in any level of public service, their post-secondary education should be paid by us tax-payers. This already is the case with the military.
What's on your mind...

It definitely doesn't take a village, but I think we agree on that.

There is a difference between ...

What parents are truly prepared?  I would wager that close to 80% of all children born in america were not planned births.   Even with the best family planning and birth control, to quote a jurasic park line 'life finds a way...'  Some people are just more fertile than others.  Or whatever the reason, I am convinced that the human species is as successful as we are because we are driven to reproduce whether we consciously are aware of that or not.  Its instinct just as with all animals.  We can try to control it, but I'm not going to sit back in condemnation of people doing something that is such a primal drive within us.
