It is a just a literal translation of "文化大革命".  
By the way, one thing for sure was that most Chinese in the early period of this political movement thought it was to be great. However, it was so ironically that it just turned out to be a severe disaster lasting for decades.

What I can agree with you is that the Cultural Revolution in its early period did have some positive effects. But these photos did not show the whole picture of the Cultural Revolution. For my grandfather generations who had experienced, it was a horrible and painful memory.

It was a pity that the greatness of Mao just constituted his greatest weakness. No one dared to be against him or challenge his patriarchy. Thus he was also vulnerable to exploitation. Everything said or done by him was exaggerated or distorted to cater to his expectation.

The pictures of horrible but commonplace "Strugle Session" during the Cultural Revolution remind me of the antiutopian work, "1984", by Jorge Orwell.

There were KMT traitors. They deserved a lot worse than this.
If the U.S. found an ISIS cell in the U.S. today you can bet they would be treated far worse than this.
My wife's father loved Mr. Mao.
Many older Chinese do. If you loved China as Mr. Mao did you had nothing to worry about.
You've been subjected to plenty of brainwashing I see.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?
