It's too large a system to fixed and it's not just the education system. It is a whole way of thinking and culture towards education.

First stop is to stop thinking if it's the China's way or the Western way. As Mao says, any cat that can catch a rat is a good cat regardless if its white or brown.

Second Michael was right in one of his blog that failure is necessary. Parents must tolerate failure or imperfection. Without that the child will just get more efficient in doing the same old thing even when it's no longer useful.

Third there need to be a change in culture in tolerating differences as opposed to harmony at all cause. Harmony reduce conflict but increase group think where everyone think the same thing. Nothing new is gonna come out of there.

I won't go on because changes need to be incremental. There is no point pursuing things in all direction and not focusing on what needs to be done. If the first three thing can be accomplish I think we can then get somewhere.
