A shop owner in Beijing has been living an eco-friendly life since last year and inspiring people around her to lead a life with zero waste.

Yu Yuan, 27, used to work in a foreign company in the capital. Last year, she quit her well-paid position and has been living a life of garbage recycling and classification with her boyfriend.

In three months, the couple only produced some 500 ml waste.

Yu said, "We need to be conscientious when we buy, use and handle things in our daily life. For example, I usually buy things made from reusable or natural materials. I am more inclined to buy second-hand items now."

Yu usually takes her own lunch box and tableware when eating outside. She uses her own cloth bag instead of a plastic bag when shopping at the vegetable market. She has self-made toothpaste and soap with raw materials.

Yu also collects daily kitchen waste in stainless steel containers and put it in the refrigerator for seven to 10 days. She finally mixes the garbage with soil and dry leaves, which makes it into fertilizer.

Yu said, "Life without waste advocates the 'Six R's' principle, namely: refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle and rot. It encourages everyone to produce less trash and reduce waste, instead of relying merely on sending things to recycling."

In fact, Yu used to be a shopping fanatic. She used to store several hundred items of clothing in her previous 15-square-meter rented house.

When she saw an online video introducing a family of four Americans producing only one jar of garbage a year two years ago, she was inspired and completely change her lifestyle.

Yu and her boyfriend have now opened a small shop called The Bulk House in the city's Nanluoguxiang, continuing to advocate life with no waste, by replacing plastic straws with ones made from stainless-steel, and transforming used sacks into fashion handbags and backpacks.

They also turned the old fabrics into clothes and pillowcases.

Yu said, "Our friends and families are affected by us. Now they bring their own cloth bags when shopping and order fewer takeouts. Zero waste lifestyle is not as complicated as we think. If we split it into a number of small steps, and try it out bit by bit in daily life, it is actually simple."

    La nuit silencieuse.

    Dans la nuit,
    silencieuse
    comme une
    feuille désolée,
    j'écoute le
    sourire qui vient
    tendrement en
    donnant la
    lumière.

    Como la nieve.
    ( last version )

    En observant l'infini
    et quand le souffle
    de la brise caresse
    mon visage en
    donnant le délassement
    par quasi brillare
    quel fascio di
    luce che mesto
    s'adagia ed incanta
    il creato: como
    la nieve que dulce
    regresa en el
    soplo del sol,
    como una rosa
    que canta y regala
    una triste armonía
    spreading a verse
    in the heart of
    the country...
