Touching Letter from Teacher Goes Viral Online
Wang Yanna [Guangzhou Daily]

young teacher from Chaozhou, south China's Guangdong Province, recently gained fame on social networks after posting a letter to her 48 students in Guangzhou.

Wang Yanna, 26, has engaged in public service activities since her childhood. After graduating from college in 2015, she became a teacher at Tangshu Primary School, in Huadu District of Guangzhou, Guangdong.

At the school, she was excited to teach her first batch of Grade 3 students.

Before the students were set to leave for holidays in August, Wang relocated without saying goodbye in person. She went to teach in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region together with 30 others.

"I took leave early because I was afraid I might burst into tears in front of my students," said Wang.

Wang decided to volunteer in Xinjiang in June, but did not tell her students in case it would affect their performance in exams.

On August 24, as she was about to board the plane, she shared the news with students on WeChat.

In her long letter, she wrote how she missed them and reflected each student's strengths and weaknesses.

She also encouraged them to read more books and have a healthy diet each day. Meanwhile, she told them to be not afraid of separating from other people, a common phenomenon in life.

Moreover, she shared with them how strong the white poplars are in the desert and what she saw in Xinjiang to encourage her students to adapt themselves to changing circumstances positively.

Wang wrote the letter against the backdrop that she found life in Xinjiang was far more difficult than she imagined. In early winter, gales are frequent, and usually result in power cuts in the whole county.

Besides, she did not know if she could be a good teacher to her new students whose living background was different as hers. Looking at them, she thought of her students in Guangzhou.

Lost in thought, she wrote that letter and posted it on her WeChat account.

Soon after, her former students' parents read her letter and replied to her online showing their encouragement.

"My child and I both miss you. My child works hard with study just as you do in teaching. May everything go well with you," wrote one student's mom.

Her letter has been reposted many times online. Many netizens praised her for being a good teacher. Her classmates, friends and counterparts all commented that they were inspired by her words.

Now, Wang teaches students in Grade 4 in Xinjiang. They are of about the same age as her students in Guangzhou, but they speak a different way, and have different habits and cultural backgrounds.

"The students in Xinjiang are sort of introverted, so I need to find the way of education according to their characteristics," said Wang.

After teaching them for three months, she has felt their changes.

"They do not express their love for me directly, but they bring me fruits grown at home. A girl even wrote that I was like her older sister," said Wang happily.

"I can always feel a high sense of fulfillment by serving as a teacher. It is a wonderful experience to teach useful knowledge to my students," Wang concluded.
