A family of four generations in the city of Changsha, central China's Hunan Province, has been selflessly dedicating itself to public welfare in the past few years, keeping alive charitable Chinese family traditions.

Chen Yunhua, 64, keeps a bakery named Wing of Heart at a tea market in Changsha County. The store was started by Chen and four other volunteers including her daughter, with each of them investing 5,000 yuan to help children with cerebral palsy.

There are currently three employees in the store, two of whom are mothers of children afflicted with the same disease. Chen taught them to make cakes and snacks, and regularly conducted free baking training. Some 52 parents of children with cerebral palsy have participated in their training sessions.

According to Chen, hundreds of sick children from across the province come to receive free government-run rehabilitation training at Changsha Xiangya Boai Rehabilitation Hospital every year and most of these families suffer from impoverishment resulted from their kids' illness.

Therefore, Chen set up the store to help these parents learn how to make snacks so that they can open their own stores or save family expenses.

Chen, who originally lived in Luyuan Community of the high-tech industrial zone, has long been a well-known contributor to public welfare. Chen was once selected as a Good Person in Changsha.

On May 15 this year, Chen's family, as a representative of winners of the national Looking for the Most Beautiful Families campaign, participated in the awards ceremony of the 11th National Five-virtue Family Commendation Conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

In July 2015, Chen established a public service organization in the community. So far, the organization has brought together hundreds of neighbors, relatives and social, warm-hearted people on its new media platforms WeChat and QQ groups to carry out social benevolence.

Chen revealed that they have collected books for communities, visited senior people and orphans in nursing homes and welfare houses, and sent consolations to veterans. Chen has organized more than 300 various charitable activities, benefitting thousands of people.

Under the demonstration effect, the family also began to participate in various public welfare activities. Chen's daughter Ling Lihui regularly donates diapers to the Children's Hospice Care Center after work; Chen's son-in-law Fan Huqiang has also brought digestion tablets to children in Changsha First Welfare Institute after hearing of their indigestion.

Chen's 12-year-old granddaughter Fan Jin has helped raise funds for veterans and sell Spring Festival couplets; even Chen's 97-year-old mother often goes to the home care center with volunteers to visit and accompany the elderly.

Chen also pays daily attention to some events launched by other public welfare organizations, and actively participates with her granddaughter if time allows. Whilst her husband Ling Liangxian has also helped her prepare the handicrafts needed for public welfare.

By adhering to their family virtues and performing social responsibility through their words and deeds, Chen and her family have set a positive role model for people around to follow, thereby drawing more people to jointly promote traditional virtues, and inherit charitable family traditions.
