Catherine McMahon, from Sydney-based Macquarie University, has been cooperating with Chinese counterparts for over 13 years in audiology education, research and clinical service delivery.

McMahon has helped numerous people with hearing impairments since she became a clinical audiologist. After years of research, she is now a leading figure in the field in her home country.

McMahon visited China for the first time in 2005 to assist in building the first audiology program at Capital Medical University.

Macquarie University has also worked with institutions such as Shanghai No.9 People's Hospital, to help cultivate audiologists.

McMahon's most recent research has focused on better understanding the relationship between hearing perception and hearing loss, measuring the benefits that hearing devices and hearing training can bring.

She is committed to providing clinicians with advanced tools. "Research findings should be applied to teaching, and China and Australia will continue to work together in the field of audiology," she says.
