The famous voice-over artist, dubbed film director and writer Su Xiu was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in July for her contribution to the promotion of French culture in China.

Su, 92, had been a translator for the Shanghai Film Studio, a voice actor and a translation director for the Shanghai Film Translation Factory before her retirement in 1984.

Since then, Su has been undertaking translation and directing work at Shanghai Television and the Shanghai Film Archive.

In her 68-year-long dubbing career, she has widely participated in the French films such as The Great Stroll and Madame Bovary as well as many high-profile TV series including Princesse de Benevent, The Man Who Laughs, Old Goriot and The Red and the Black.

Among them, the film The Great Stroll is not only a feature film about the fate of ordinary people in the historical background but also an innovative comedy film for the big screen.

Axel Cruau, Consulate General of France in east China's Shanghai, said in his letter of congratulation: "I am proud of your contribution to the French culture through your distinguished career. Thanks to your talent and excellent dubbing work, the Chinese audience can discover the charm of French films."

The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the highest honor awarded by the French government to the literary and artistic circles, was established in 1957 by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication to recognize and commend prestigious French and foreigners who have made special achievements and outstanding contributions to the promotion of French and world culture in the field of art or literature.

The latest honor is a recognition made by the French government to the achievements attained by dubbed film workers in Shanghai in the decade-long promotion of the Chinese-French cultural exchanges.
