Yes it is a silly statement.  There are no links just comments bitter middle-aged women make about a man being older than his wife.  If a man signs up on eHarmony and puts an age range that is more than 5 years younger than himself a pop up screen comes up and asks "Are you sure, ...", etc.

It's not about money, many young women/girls are attracted to older men because of the life experience. Also older men are much more self-confident etc.
