South Korea and Taiwan is part of US hegemony over China, need to deleverage.

1)South Korea builds Fabs like crazy in China, cranking out massive amount memory chips that flood China market and contraints Chinese memory development.

2)Look at Huawei depend 100% on Taiwan TSMC for chip manufacturing.

Both South Korea and Taiwan are part of US hegemony over China. CHina needs to deleverage from them. This way China can be freed from US hegemony.

China needs to use its own semiconductor equipment to build its own semiconductor industry.

Competition will always be there. Changing the tide is China's mission. China cannot blame anyone for coming late to the game because it was its own flaws that delayed its presence. Even today, there are still flaws. On another note, people in Korea and people in Taiwan worry what a world without the US will be. Its human to want to have a just-in-case backup. If the economies of East Asia are open, unified, organized and coherent then it doesn't matter what US does. Its not hard to play the game the way US plays it. Doesn't mean US will always win.

RE:   Its human to want to have a just-in-case backup.

That's true; however, people in China don't need a foreign power to backup them up...

One might compare it to a foreign bank; 3/4 of their profit was generated in Asia since day one of banking...

However, now comes a little war or the US sanction them establishments...

You might as well burn your foreign bank book and say, well it was my own fault.  After all, they did not put a gun to your head and force you to bank with them:handshake

Chips account for about one-fifth of Korea's outbound shipments...

Exports fell 11.4% in feb. and over 8% to $47.11 billion in March...
Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest memory-chip maker of one-fifth of Korea's outbound shipments is in trouble.  Seemingly Factory activity in China, which takes one-quarter of South Korean exports are pulling back.
The US trade war is hurting S/Korea deeply...

It will happen-even Japan. There will be no choice in the matter.
