Should the minimum age for marriage be lowered to 18?During the ongoing two sessions, Huang Xihua, a NPC member, submitted a proposal to lower the minimum legal age for marriage to 18. Currently the minimum legal age for marriage is 22 for males and 20 for females. According to Huang, China has the highest legal marriageable age in comparison to that of other countries. Huang said that in some places, if some people want to get married but they have not reached the legal marriage age yet, they will use fake ID cards and report false ages to get marriage certificates. Some young people directly go into cohabitation, and while it is not under the protection of laws, it is a de facto marriage. These problems are undoubtedly a hidden danger in society. If the legal marriage age is lowered to 18, it would help to protect the legitimate rights of these underage couples and will promote social harmony.
many Chinese people are barely mature enough at 28 to marry.
however by encouraging earlier marriages will mean that women especially won't be able to compete their education and can be controlled more easily by family.
'barefoot and pregnant' (and uneducated) is clearly how China wants women. Yes it should, it's 16 in UK so quite right 22/20 is a bit too old, some people like myself and Mrs Austin wanted to tie the knot earlier I was 19 Mrs Austin was 18 Does that mean the age of "leftover women" will lower as well? Once a Chinese woman hits 24, will she be considered as leftover? curious to know why men cant marry at 20 like the ladies can Uypur an adult when you turn 18 in China why not parcher Post time: 2017-3-5 20:37 static/image/common/back.gif
