Some people say: "Chinese are good at personal struggling who can do so well on table-tennis; but we are weak on mass-cooperation that is the main reason why Chinese have not won any world championship in soccer field!“

The above was my comment to other's thread, which has driven me think a lot about our group-spirit!  Do we Chinese really lack of mass-cooperation in daily work?

In the college Professor Liu made such a remark on the topic: 'In the American Bell lab all scholars united together who have got seven Nobel Prizes for their new discoveries or inventions! We Chinese pay much attention to self-effort who seldom exchange ideas with each other.   Even some teachers do not explain theory in easy way! Students are required to do reading in silence without discussion! That is why our education is backw!"

In  China we often say that one tree can not be called woods! In other words one good man needs three helpers for success while one fence must be supported with at least three poles!
In football match or volleyball competition, all athletes work together for the same goal! Such friendship and atmosphere are rare to see in class when we deal with books or technology!
In ancient China it was common for a master to teach his whole technique or skill to only one or few apprentices! -----------Such ugly tradition is not good the progress of our society!

The following was real story that happened in my eldest brother‘s work-unit--------The Harbin Architecture Research Institute.  That researcher named Smith got the national reward for his invention of anti-freezing chemicals who became famous overnight since the people‘s daily reported his deed!  All the staff felt happy for his achievement except his master! The latter thought that the first would not have had such glory if without his instruction and the student ought to share the fruit with the teacher!  Soon they became strangers to each other after a bitter quarreling on the fame and interest!’’

Certainly it was hard to judge who was right or wrong. In fierce competition people can not united as one fist, what a pity it is!
All of our writings should go with zero error!

Good thread. An important topic and it takes courage and great passion and goodwill to bring it up. This problem of lack of good cooperation but great personal effort is seen in India too. It is in some respects even worse there. But times are slowly changing. Searu, I applaud your raising this topic- will raise awareness even as you seek an open discussion. Love it!

The Chinese may not co-operate on the football field, but they certainly co-operate a lot in cheating!  Witness the huge number of cheats caught in a single office whenever the cops carry out their raids;  the cheats work very closely with each other to cheat their victims!
