The main problem as of now is that the talk might not happen even before the confirmation of both parties.

The previous meet between North and South Korea was just a mere single day (less than 24 hours) event that to many an opportunity to cross talk directly between two leaders since the end of the Korean War. Even statements make were just a simplistic protocol messages of what aspect of many future engagements too come.

Expectation of US seem too great. Trump expect mountains instead of mole hills from North Korea in his again one day meet. Similarly even his Secretary of State, National Security Advisors are behaving at the same notion. Nothing will ever happens in a single day meet, period. Demanding too much at one time from North Korea will simply kill the opportunity of peace in the Korean Peninsular and that is for sure. Never in history has a change be make that timeframe.

Frankly, the participation of a third party is alway the trouble maker. In the eyes of the world they seem to acting in good fate but often one that has an extremely expectation like US will put off any successful talk and many of that expectation are often force fed onto the other party without any hesitation of whether that country has the ability to accept it or a counter offer. This is what negotiations are all about and if it is a one sided affair then it does not make sense for a meeting in the first place.

From the event that follows, it look more like the South Korea has done a better job of engaging the North rather than the coming event, that is if it happens. Too much expectations from Trump and to be frak no one will ever make a decisive decision in a one day affair, no one. Solving a more than 60 years old problem in a single day is utterly impossible.

Trump is a former game show host while Kim has been fighting for his country's survival since he took power.
I have never heard of anything offered by the US other than promises of sanction removal.
The nuclear deterrence was put in place by North Korea in response to the US military bases and US military personnel in South Korea.
The removal of these would be the only incentive for North Korea to consider denuclearization.
If there is no genuine incentive from the US, they why should the talks even take place?
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

In my opinion, the South should have put the foot down and demand that the US cancel the military super exercises.
As you say, anyone demanding that the North must ship his weapons to the US before they pull out their troops from the South  had to be day dreaming.
Iraq and Libya did the same, now their leaders can listen to how he grass grows from 6' below.

US has been seen as wanting the denuclearization of North Korea.

Let's put it this way the north development it because the US has nuclear weapons stationed in South Korea and see it as a way to protect itself in the first place. If the north agree to do it then US should also remove it from South Korea and Japan as well. Strategically nukes in South Korea and Japan are also tactically poise at not just at North Korea but also on two other adversaries in the area too.

US should take steps of developing an understanding and maintain the line of communication with the North Korean first and foremost. Then perhaps listen to what the north can do to move forward and US interpretation of its offer and its expectations. Not just dump all the demands at their feet and threaten to walk out at the moment it comes to an objection. This looks more like a daylight robbery and no negotiations carries this type of mentality.

Engage North Korea as you will as any other country in it proper diplomatic protocol and not walking in like a hooligans bang on the table and expect them to give in to your demands and expectations. It is better to engage them in a proper context rather than having to miss that chance of peace in the 38 parallel which is better for both South Korea and Japan as well.

Indeed, it would be better...
But not for the US, the very last thing they desire is a peaceful Far East...
Matter of fact, nothing could possibly scare them more...

The US is insincere; while Kim has fulfilled his promise by blowing up his test sites, the US and its ally S Korea carried out a massive war game.  How can Kim be comfortable meeting Trump if Trump keeps flexing his muscles at him?
