Good morning

I often hear Chinese English students use an English idiom in the wrong way. Today’s lesson will show you one of those and I’ll teach how to use it right.

Idiom

bored to death

I often hear Chinese English speakers say, “I’m bored to die.” This is a wrong usage of this idiom. If you say it to a native speaker like myself, I’ll understand you. However, I’ll also know that you really don’t know how to use the idiom. You should say, “Bored to death.” This is the right way to use this very common idiom.

Practice

The professor’s lecture bored me to death.

Watching television sometimes bores me to death.

I was bored to death during the concert.

I’m often bored to death with nothing to do.

I bought a new book that I thought would be interesting. As I started reading it, it bored me to death.

Learn this idiom the right way. Never say ‘bored to die.’ You can say, ‘bored to death.’

That’s all for today.

Goodbye for now.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Any English teacher worth being considered a real teacher knows this is a fact. Nothing new written here.

I understand what the English teacher said, they don‘t have time to teach speaking, when thousands of Chinese students to contend for extremely limited education resources, the intention of learning English will be changed
