Good morning

Another common idiom allows you to express a since of surprise or disbelief. You hear something that is quite surprising and you want to give an emotional expression about it. Using ‘emotional speech’ really makes a non-native English speaker sound more fluent and natural.

Idiom

‘you've got to be kidding’

‘you must be kidding’

Explanation: "Kidding" is the same as joking. It makes you think of a ‘kid’, a child. A child can believe many things because they have a great imagination. You can relate that to this idiom quite easily. When a person hears something that is true, but it is not expected, the person will use this idiom to express that the statement is ridiculous.

Practice

Mom: Son, you need to be home by 8:00 p.m.

Son: Mom, you’ve got to be kidding. I’m 18 years old now.

Co-worker 1: You know I heard that we aren’t going to get paid on time.

Co-worker 2: You must be kidding because, today is April Fool’s Day.

Teacher: Tonight, I’m going to give you 2 hours of homework.

Student: You’ve got to be kidding, teacher. I need to sleep.

Learn this very common idiom and use it. You’ll sound much more like a native English speaker.

That’s all for today.

Goodbye for now.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Until the Chinese change the methods used to teach English by Chinese teachers and get rid of 99% of the poor foreign teachers. Maybe 5% of the Chinese will master English.Maybe. Taliking how and actually doing it are very different.

No one should destroy other property. But maybe 10% of students in the USA use them to learn. Can lead a horse to water but can not make them drink it. Same with computers. Can tell them they should but 90% or more willl not.
