MY CHINA VISIT

I had the opportunity to visit PR China during 1-10 Sept 2016 on the invitation of SAFEA as a high end expert for delivering lectures in different cities. During my visit , I travelled to Changchun, Shenyang & Beijing. My heartfelt thanks & gratitude to everyone in SAFEA and PMI China.
As part of my lectures , I shared with the participants , various factors which can enhance " Competitiveness and Efficiency of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs)". My lectures covered the following :
  • Importance of SOEs in the country's economy
  • Cost cutting strategies-Inventory Management, Standardisation of equipment, Minimising Idle Freight etc
  • Benchmarking
  • Business through Joint Ventures (JVs)
  • Cooperation + Competition = Co-opetition
  • Timely completion of Projects (Project Management)
  • Methods for generating Incremental Revenue
Though I received positive feedback , I hope my sessions were of actual use to participants. Personally for me, it was huge learning.
Based on my personal interactions & also reading through newspapers & other published literature, I could identify some issues which SOEs might be facing or may face in future. For instance, coal & steel companies  have cut down on capacity & production. Also, some of the companies have merged into bigger SOEs. This may lead to workers becoming surplus or redundant but being Government owned entities, SOEs have to take care of such people who become redundant.

This , naturally , would require strategies for retraining & gainful redeployment of people.Being an employee of State Owned Enterprises (called Public Sector) in India, I am aware that this would require creation of modules, delivery mechanisms, trainers etc. I am not sure whether PMI or SAFEA or SASAC would be in-charge for the retraining & redeployment. Anyway , my best wishes to the agencies and the people. From my side, I would be ever willing to help in any way possible. It would indeed be a pleasure & proud privilege .

Before I close ,  my Best Wishes for a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year.

Sanjay Kumar

But how did you like you trip to China? We know what you did work wise. Reminded me of Zig Ziegler.

It sounds highly technical, professional and is a little short on details. Why were YOU invited? In what capacity do you work bnack home? I am a little puzzled as to why SAFEA sponsored your journey.

Hi, The trip was nice-my first trip to PR China. Helped me connect with good number of people professionally. The visits to different cities & the cultural repositories (the Forbidden cities in Shenyang & Beijing) were fascinating.

Seneca Hi, I work in the capacity of a Director of HR (Board Member) in a State Owned Enterprise in the Coal Mining Sector in India.
I am basically a HR, Strategy & Project Management practitioner. However, apart from being a practitioner I have interest in training, teaching publishing articles from time to time. Two articles written by me have been translated into Chinese by PMI China & published in PMI Network in China journal in March & October 2015.
I like connecting with people in different geographies and am willing to share my thoughts & knowledge without any commercial consideration. I am specially willing to help people & businesses cut costs & optimise a number of processes for improving efficiency & also competitiveness.
Best

Thanks. Yes joint ventures is a great idea. Another idea is that it is in many ways just as good for private Chinese investment in PPP. It is just as good in many ways for Jack Ma or other Chinese citizens/groups to invest in PPP as it is to have foreign investment in PPP.

    Thanks again for your blog.
