Random Thoughts from Old Time (2)

Life teaches us a lot of lessons which I believe that we would be far better off with first hand experience regarding to those lessons rather than second hand one. This also perfectly explains why we cannot lead a decent life after being lectured by others all these years.

Our parents always believe that we should follow their advice because they have been through the journey we are taking and because they are giving their hard-earned lessons to us so that we can avoid repeating the mistakes they had made before.

Nonetheless, parents are not always right. Living in a society which is constantly changing, no one can guarantee that future will go the way we have planned. Therefore do not play safe especially when you are young.

The whole point of being young is to take the risks and to embrace the possibilities and to discover more of ourselves. Being young, the prime time of life, we are expected to make countless mistakes, to stumble and to get hurt as this is how we gain our first-hand experience on the lessons life is trying to teach us.

Do not go gentle into that good night!

There are days I feel like years long and there are weeks I feel like seconds short---the theory of relativity. So what you do with your time and whom you do it with really matter.

Sometimes, I just want to sit in a corner, lay my head on knees, hold my legs tightly and cry out loud. It's neither about happiness nor sadness. It's not  about anything. I just want to clear my mind. Like the sky, it cries occasionally to clear all the pollutants in the air. Afterwards, we may see wonders like rainbow in the sky. Tears shouldn't be associated with weakness. It's simply a type of emotion.

Sometimes, we don't have anyone who appreciate the show we perform in life; we may not even have any listener or audience. But this should never become our reason to give up. Of course, it's never without depression not to be understood. Nonetheless, so long as we are living our life and enjoying what we are doing, we should be grateful for this blessing God grants us as nothing in this world can be better than being fond of what we are doing. Your passion as well as enthusiasm towards your job are what make you such a charming and charismatic person.

Many people love their beloved ones under the name of friendship. That's the saddest but also the most beautiful story I've ever heard. Ideally, they deserve to be together more than any other things out there. But more often than not, they end up leading quite different life. However, this only makes each other even more charming in the bottom of their loved ones' heart because what can't be obtained always seem to be unbelievably desirable. We are all very forgetful. Once we decide to let it go, what is left behind is only the sweet memory as the bitterness and sourness may have already drifted away the moment we let go of each other's hand.

Every moment in life breeds a change for the next moment. Changes in life are unavoidable and irreversible. What we can do and should do is embracing them rather than avoiding them as more often than not it is the change that makes us better. Admittedly, I miss my old life occasionally as there lie so many fond memories. But life is awash with changes. It's never smart to try to stay at the same ground because you can't live your life on the old memory. Instead, life should be a journey of constantly making new memory.

Memory is a cheater, probably the greatest one ever. Because whenever we recall what has happened, it seems that what is left is only fond memory. The stupid mistakes we have made appear to be wearing a veil in the name of youth. They are therefore easily forgivable. The pains we have endured are smoothed and cured by time. We have already put behind the pain which once turned our life upside down.

The once so mundane past suddenly seems so vivid and telling in our reminiscing eyes. The desire of going back and relive it grows stronger when the obstacles start piling up in our  present life.

But in effect we are simply trying to avoid the harsh or even excruciating reality. This isn't helpful as we can't live on our old memory. If we have done this at such an young age, what are we gonna do when old?

Contradictory is life. It's akin to standing at a crossing on the road. We want to turn left because the view on that side is stunning; We may also want to turn right because the road is less bumpy on that side. In real life, we are invariably torn between two different options or even worse among many different choices.

Life is a conundrum. We always try to figure out a better if not the best solution to every obstacle we encounter with. But what we don't know is that there is never a so-called better way out of life. I suppose only the end of life will end all these controversial things brimming in life.

We all can't have both. If you choose the left, enjoy the spectacular view and forget the bumps on the road; if you choose the flat road, stop thinking about the magnificent scenery. The grass is never greener on the other side. Choose one side and stick to it until the very end.

It is actually emotionally and mentally healthy to have nursing homes for old people in residential areas, and makes it easy for families to visit their elderly relations regularly.
Death happens to everyone and it is stupid to hide it away. Death is not bad luck - it will happen to you and me.
In some European countries there are homes for the elderly next to kindergartens, and everyone benefits from interacting with each other on a daily basis.
The elderly benefit from interacting with children and keeps them mentally alert, whereas the young learn about death as a normal part of life.

For a country that supposedly 'respects' their elders, China has a very superstitious attitude to death and dying.
where i am from, the elderly are allowed and supported by family and state) to be independent and in their own homes.
Where medical treatment is needed, residential homes allow the elderly appropriate facilities in towns and cities while their families can visit easily and local residents can interact with them.
In addition, local communities benefit from being able to interact with these residents and the residents can still be part of a local community, not hidden away as something to be ashamed of or 'taboo'.

Shame on China for such medieval superstitious attitudes regarding death.
Does China 'respect' the elderly so much that they should be hidden away from people's lives?

Do you want to be isolated and hidden away when you are old and your family don't want to or can't visit you?
