Random Thoughts from Old Time (1)

Viewed 790 times 2017-3-16 10:36 |Personal category:life|System category:Life| random, thoughts

I wrote these about two years ago. I have been sorting them and decide to post some of them here. They are raw feelings and therefore can be very subjective.

If I were an unfinished song, would you be the lost part?

If I wrote down the lyrics, would you compose the melody or vice verse?

If I didn't tell you the underlying meaning of it, would you be able to figure it out yourself?

If I hummed the song by moonlight shadow, would you hum it with me?

Because only together can we make the best duet!

We make choices all the time, be they good or bad. To a certain extent, I believe someone's life is made up of the choices this person made and will make. And in most cases, the choices we have made decide in which direction our lives are going to head.

Making a decision is never an easy task, especially when it comes to making a crucial decision. We take all the possibilities into consideration; we weigh the merits and demerits. Then we decide what we consider as the best possible solution.

Nevertheless, there is never a perfect choice. What seemed to be the right decision then and there may turn out not-so-right in the end. When we realized that, it more often than not was already too late to do anything. Next, we might regret and got depressed.

Worse still is that we may become hesitant and indecisive next time we come to the point requiring us to choose a path. This is mainly because we are afraid of the potential failures after the previous unsuccessful experiences.

That said, we all make bad choices now and then. It is really unnecessary to be so critical on ourselves as well as on others as long as we learn our lessons from those bad choices.

Besides, what seems wrong now may turn out to be just right in the future. Future is full of uncertainty which no one can foresee. Even though this is annoying, it is also where the beauty of life lies as it makes life mysterious and surprising.

We are living in the present and meanwhile looking forward to the future. Therefore, when making a decision, we need to focus more on the current situation and less on the possible future failures as future is changeable instead of being static.

It's like we shouldn't keep staying in our shells just because we know something bad might happen. Otherwise, we would miss all the beauty and fun in the world out of the shell.

There are a lot of times we wish we could be others. Nonetheless in the meantime, we are who others want to be. It's like we say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I suppose this is because outsiders seem to put our strengths under a magnifying glass while we ourselves tend to put our weaknesses under it. Therefore, we see two completely different kinds of life.

To us, others' lives always seem to be amazing and glorious whereas we consider our own lives as boring and monotonous. Therefore, we fall into the vicious cycle of trying to be somebody else by imitating their lifestyle.

But, it doesn't work that way. We only see the glamorous part of others' lives, which is only a small part of the whole picture. Once the whole picture starts to reveal itself in front of us, we may realise it's not what you want after all.

Besides, it's pointless to try to be someone else. It's akin to wearing other people's shoes which not always feel comfortable as sometimes they simply don't fit.

Growing pains are not avoidable. It's not like they will be less painful if you are living others' lives. No matter what kind of life we are leading, we all have our pains and we all have to learn to deal with them, which is how we grow.

Love is like waiting for the next bus. You are never sure when it will come. Sometimes, you watch the bus which will take you to your destination passing you by. Once you stand there and wait for the next bus to come, you start to regret for not trying harder as you could have caught the previous bus. But, what is great about this is the randomness and uncertainty. The next bus may come when you least expect it and surprise you. So, please be patient, it will definitely show up in due course.

We make decisions; we make plans; we set goals and then we start the journey. We all understand that the whole process is just as important as the destination. But, a lot of times, the process is painstaking or even insufferable, we get perplexed, lost or worse still, we simply give up. Consequently, we don't get to see how spectacular the view at the final point is not because we don't understand the lessons that life is trying to teach us but because we oftentimes just lack persistence and perseverance. These are what tell the ordinary us apart from the outstanding elites and talents. However, please don't beat yourself up yet. We all have so many journeys to make in our whole life. And we will definitely complete some of them and will have to give up some as well as no one can have all he desires. Learning to let go is also a lesson we learn as we grow up.

Your life is analogous to the tide.

There are ups and downs just like high tides and low tides.

There are times when your passion towards certain stuff is like the wild tide running towards the shore; there are also times when the enthusiasm fades away as fast as the falling tide.

Neither of this matters as they are just a flash in the pan. What really matters is that you should be able to pull through the days in life when there is no tide at all because that's what life is like most of the time.

What is threatening is not the monstrous and destructive tide which can eat you alive, but the boredom and the invariable which can erode your soul and blind you from seeing what you truly want for your life.

It is actually emotionally and mentally healthy to have nursing homes for old people in residential areas, and makes it easy for families to visit their elderly relations regularly.
Death happens to everyone and it is stupid to hide it away. Death is not bad luck - it will happen to you and me.
In some European countries there are homes for the elderly next to kindergartens, and everyone benefits from interacting with each other on a daily basis.
The elderly benefit from interacting with children and keeps them mentally alert, whereas the young learn about death as a normal part of life.

For a country that supposedly 'respects' their elders, China has a very superstitious attitude to death and dying.
where i am from, the elderly are allowed and supported by family and state) to be independent and in their own homes.
Where medical treatment is needed, residential homes allow the elderly appropriate facilities in towns and cities while their families can visit easily and local residents can interact with them.
In addition, local communities benefit from being able to interact with these residents and the residents can still be part of a local community, not hidden away as something to be ashamed of or 'taboo'.

Shame on China for such medieval superstitious attitudes regarding death.
Does China 'respect' the elderly so much that they should be hidden away from people's lives?

Do you want to be isolated and hidden away when you are old and your family don't want to or can't visit you?
