You Don't Have to Travel the World

Traveling the world has somehow been depicted by media as the symbol of bravery and glory. Plenty of young people aspire to be one of the warriors. The hard truth is many real issues get in the way for many traveler wannabes. In the end, some will travel, and some won’t.

I do like traveling. I went to Bali, Kuala Lumpur and Bintan in last three months. Those are beautiful memories. I travel to experience the things I haven’t seen and spend some good time with friends and feel the culture. I never expect much for a trip. I don’t think I can be a better person after traveling to somewhere, probably just get more sun-tanned. I don’t think a trip can change my life unless I go to Thailand or Korea and spend the money. I don’t think I can find the Utopia. Oh I did! Starbucks was the Utopia when I was lost in Kuala Lumpur. Some people said getting lost is also the meaning of travel. How I wish they can try it with the temperature of over 35 degrees. For some reasons, many people overstate, for example, “Shangri-La is just like heaven!”. Then why didn't they stay in the heaven but came back? Travel is not like the fancy photos you see on the internet. I just simply enjoy the joy brought by the unknown. It's no big deal, and I think it’s what travel is meant to be. If you have a lot of money and time, you can go to Dubai and buy a property incidentally. But if you are not, having a picnic or playing Mahjong downstairs with the aunties sounds like a better option. I feel like a super shallow person now. Haha!

It’s the attitude, rather than the destination, that brings you happinesses. Once you have the positive attitude. There are surprises, love, beauties... in every corner of the world. You don’t have to go to Provence to be romantic, there’s no your significant other. You don’t have to buy souvenirs in America, they are probably made in China. You don’t have to go to Egypt to see the Pyramid, you can just watch some related documentaries. Some people feel like seeing it in real life is different. The only differences I can think of are whether you can take a selfie with it, whether there is air-con and the chance of getting kidnapped.

Travel should not be a burden. I have randomly come across some news about a group of people quit the job to travel the world. It crated a buzz on the Internet. Many people want to be as brave as them saying, “If we don’t travel now, we’ll be too old to travel.” How inspiring! Yet I want to ask, if you travel now, what are you going to do when you are old? Living by government subsidy? I do respect the people who can leave everything behind, pack up and hit the road. They are amazing. But they must have some incentives that we’ll never know. It’s just not for everyone. You shouldn't risk everything to travel. One wrong decision can make you regret in the rest of you life. You are braver if you can hold the urge of traveling and do it when you have the time and money. Then you’re living life to the fullest.

Well, I may have exaggerated a little. What I’m trying to say here is not to discourage you but to tell you it’s not the end of the world if you don’t travel the world.

I have met a few people from Singapore and that is what attracts me to any city is people  that act as ambassadors for their city.
Hmmn I was thinking of going to Hong Kong again in December on a visa run. Maybe I should change my plans and visit Singapore.
