Share A Candid View of the Growing Western Emulation of the Great Firewall
2017-3-6 01:42
For more than a few years now, there has been the ever present spectacle on the international stage about China’s “Great Firewall”. Much like the original fortification, it was set up to be a defense against the hordes of barbarians that roam the length and breath of the Internet. And much like the original, it has seen its issues with maintenance and overall effectiveness. To some around the world, it is held up in regards of being as much as “Technological Wond ...

A Recommended Film – Disco and Atomic War
It was been a lively couple of months to the new year that is 2017 around the world. In my neck of the woods that is the U.S. – President Donald Trump has been the source of a good deal of humor and/or dread, no matter which part of the political spectrum. Europe is a buzz with the idea that the E.U. will reeling with changes in France, the Netherlands, and elsewhere that will be greater than the ‘Brexit’ of last year. P.R. China, much like Japan and Russia, are s ...

May We Live in Un-Interesting Times?
It was been interesting to watch the world in the wake of Donald Trump winning the U.S. Presidential Election, from the ‘Macro’ to ‘Micro’ Level. More often than naught, I am reminded of the old Chinese Curse, “May you live in Interesting Times,” with the amount of ‘wailing and gnashing of teeth’ that has been displayed by various individuals and groups in and out of the United States. However, pose a simple question: What Qualifies as “Un-Interesting T ...

Hamtramck Traditions in Action in P.R. China
Over the holiday season here in the U.S., my family and I traveled took in part in the ‘U.S. Migrant Worker’ tradition of ‘Heading Home for the Holidays’. As my wife and I have been doing for over a decade now, we traveled from Chicago, Illinois to Detroit, Michigan to celebrate Christmas at my Mother’s house. We spent time catching up with the relatives, talking about the various events of the year, watching my children and their American cousins having fun with e ...

PizzaGate and the Ghost of Darrell Coleman (Chairman)
As 2016 winds down, as I sit in my kitchen looking out at my neighborhood this snowy Christmas Eve morning, it is a bit hard to collect my thoughts on what has been a very interesting year – for myself, my family, and the world in general. From a personal standpoint, life has been good – my kids are relatively healthy and happy as they have settled into their new lives here in Hinsdale, Illinois. My wife has been able to reach out better to the extended Chicago Chinese ...

Observation: the 3rd Responsibility of Citizenship – Part Three
It has been a very grueling year for this writer – juggling the needs of home, work, and the local political activities. Nothing better than making the time to sit with total strangers, trying to tease out of them answers that will settle if they will be ‘good candidates’ for the position of the Hinsdale Library Board – in terms of running the Library itself, not overly raising local property taxes, and most of all ‘not having an agenda’ as the folks running the Hinsdale Caucu ...

Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Voting Booth
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 At the time I am typing this article up – it has been about five days since the ‘Vote Heard Around the World’ on November 9, 2016 – with Donald Trump becoming the President Elect for the United States. The last four days have been interesting, watching the wide range of emotions over the election – from jubilation to outright disgust – play out on various media outlets around the world. Much ...

The Domestic Perspective Gained from National and International Travel
As my family and I are slowly beginning to settle into our home here in Hinsdale, IL it has been fascinating to observe the local politics for the first time with the feeling of a permanent resident versus a temporary tenant. For a small community that Hinsdale is, it has a very interesting history and dynamic in the Chicagoland area over the decades. It has been surprising to see my fellow colleagues at work react when I tell them where I live, and why the reasons why. & ...

When the State is the Parent, What is Left of the Family?
It has been has been a busy series of months this summer turning into fall, with the kids going back to school along with their weekend extracurricular activities. It seems that we have barely any time to keep track of what is happening in our new neighborhood, let alone I attempting to find good candidates for the Hinsdale Library Board. Yet we do have those occasions when events occur that we cannot ignore, like when neighbors in the same Condo Block ‘pass away’, which ...

The Weakness Exposed with the South China Sea Dispute: Oil Dependence
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 As of the time this article was written, the People’s Republic of China was still in dispute with several nations in and around the South China Sea as who ‘controls’ which swaths of it. Great efforts have been made by the PLA and PLAN to build and strengthen a series of air and naval bases, in the event that the dispute becomes less of an exercise in various courts around the world (using maps and docu ...

Have you started working on the piece I suggested for you? I suppose it won't be too hard for you, right? I would be sort of disappointed if your next blog is not about Western media's hypocrisy.

It has been interesting to watch your responses to my review of this Estonian Documentary, and you have had a better go that HailChina - but at the end of the day, you still have not seen the film, have you?
