As long as the locals like it.

They do.
Only the EU - India - Japan and the 5 eyes are against it.
Worried to hell they are.

But it got nothing to do with Australia-N.Z.-Japan and the EU.
The new Silk road might even benefit them.
All them Countries along the ROAD will be able to trade among each other much more freely.

That India is not joining is their own problem, but I got the feeling that they will.
Just recently, AIIB Approved First Loan to India for $160 million to Support Power Sector...
Just as Japan is willing to join the AIIB now.

May 13th, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced that its Board of Governors has adopted resolutions approving seven applicants to join the Bank, bringing the Bank’s total approved membership to 77.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he could be open to joining the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank if questions surrounding its projects’ environmental impacts and other issues are resolved.
Japan and the United States, are the only members of the Group of Seven leading nations that haven’t signed up for the AIIB.

This is just  an excuse for not joinning right now. The true case is that jap is an US doggie who should wait for her master's attitude.  Wot a pity Japan is nowadays. Once she gets set free, surely she will give her master a good bite.

It is quite ominous. China wants to encircle India and it wants the world to go into debt to Chinese banks, as many African dictators have done on behalf of their subject peoples.

China wants to arbitrate and to make the important decisions. loans will only be given to countries that commission Chinese S.O.E.s to undertake any construction. Almost the entire Western group of countries has refused to sign because Uncle Jinping did not want to commit to transparent attribution of loans. In a nutshell: China wants the lucrative business contracts but it will socialise the economic losses and it will also saddle the small countries with pyramids of debts.

And unknown to the general public, there was already a strong hint of power politics at the meet-up inn Beijing: China invited several heads of state but it studiously gave Singapore's Mister Lee a snub. China thus displayed its dissatisfaction with recent events in Singapore. Apparently China will use all the means at its disposal to blackmail its partners and to enforce submission to its diktats.
