What a fantastic tour guide you are! Is that your job? Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'll definitely give the Metro a try. Last time I only rode buses. Easier to see the city, that way. Again, thanks. Wish you a great day.

teamkrejados: You make me want to go visit Hangzhou again! Thanks... I've needed a getaway destination. Now I'll see the city through new eyes.
The underground Metro access most part of the city and the most effective and efficient way to travel. West Lake station is Long Xiang Qiao ( Dragon Look alike Bridge); Feng Qi Silk Market station is (Wu Lin Square station which takes you to wu Lin park). Oh dont forget the other silk market at 197 Qian Kang Road for souvenir silk purse dresses tunic. Not pure silk but ones with acrylic mix but still very nice. Sat away from places like J W Marriotts whose services are overrated. Go for local hotels and food. Colinspeakman recommended tea drinking whcih has reached an Art form here. Being from Fujian I love Ooloong variety. Tarty sharp but with sweet after taste. Mountain hike by bus plenty to go around Tons of hotels some at only RMB 200 with breakfast. Watch out for motorbike lanes while crossing the pedestrian. Bountiful fruits this season...papaya, pineapple, plum, Durian (if you dare) and of course the staple Tientsin apple, Grape which I do not recommend due to load of chemicals on the skin. Bring a comfy pair of runners. Locals are friendly and will show you direction and how to get on which bus etc...yes...this would be a treat from the rat race in Shanghai...then there is Suzhou nearby...
