My 500th China Daily Blog

I suppose I'll go ahead and write a blog in my own personal celebration of my 500th blog here on China Daily. I will say that I have loved this forum for nearly 5.5 years. I've apparently written a little less than 100 blogs a year since I came on here. That's one (on average) about every 4 days.

I wrote my first blog here on October 2, 2011. 1,931 days ago. I was selected as the top blogger of 2013, but, withdrew my name to future competitive events after that, due to the fact that I have many supporters in China and didn't feel that it would be fair to continue to compete. It was never my desire to win contests. I am a writer. I've written 7 books. One of my books did quite well in America. It has been translated in a competition of Chinese-English translators here at China Daily. I came here to write and share my thoughts with whoever was interested enough to read them.

As I reflect, there have been many interesting events that have taken place with my involvement here.

A few years ago, I was invited by Victor, our blog editor, to accompany him and others to Kaifeng for a several day tourist visit there. We were also involved in a forum involving CCTV, China Daily and several other news organizations. The theme was micro-blogging (as I remember). This was a highlight of my writing here and being involved with China Daily. To meet such great people face to face is quite memorable in my heart and mind.

There have also been a few challenging times when I considered leaving China Daily. These were times where my own personal standards were challenged by comments and actions here which I have since chosen to ignore (especially if they are negative or too controversial). I didn't come here for the purpose of reacting to other people's issues or blogs. I am a writer. I came here to write. Agree with me or not. I really don't mind.

I would certainly be remiss if I didn't mention my good friend, Colin Speakman. Colin came to Zhengzhou a few years ago. We met and had dinner. I think that only Colin might be the only blogger one who has a deeper appreciation and commitment to this blog than I do. He waves the banner for China Daily wherever he goes. He is, without doubt, the 'China Daily Ambassador At Large.' I appreciate his friendship and amazing support since I've been here.

I have respected China Daily, its rules and its employees. I've always tried to support and promote whatever I've been asked to. More than that, I feel that Victor and other employees have considered me part of the China Daily family. I appreciate that and look forward to my next 500 blogs here as I try to make a positive contribution to the forum and to its readers' lives.

(Opinions of the writer in this blog don't represent those of China Daily.)

Jaaja: Why? Because Harvard degree is indefinitely more useful in international career, than Peking University degree. PU only carries similar value inside C ...
Ture but most Chinese return to China Plus if your have not mastered English a degree from Harvard with a 75% average means nothing. Now if you end up in the top 10% of your class then by all means it is better. But really how many Chinese end up in the top 10% in any USA university? Maybe 1 out of 10,000.If you do not want to return to China then yes Harvard Degree is better.
