Never, Never, Never, Give Up!

A huge key in life and in business, is, stay focused. When you refuse to give up, no matter what obstacles you face, you will maintain the focus that is required for true success.

In 2005, I went into semi-retirement. I wrote a book that year because I had the time to travel and relax a little and focus on finishing it. I was 47 years old. Quite young to take life so easy. But, I felt I deserved it. I'd worked hard against a lot of opposition to my success. I know what it takes to achieve goals and get what you want.

I see a lot of people wandering around in life. They don't know what they want. Like the old Chinese wise man said, "You can't get to where you want to go if you don't know where it is." Very true.

I think one of the keys to unlocking the doors of your success is having the tenacity to stay with a goal and a project UNTIL it succeeds. I see people who try something for a few weeks and if they don't get very quick success, they abandon that idea and go on to another. The late, great, businessman and one of America's greatest philanthropists, Andrew Carnegie, said, "Put all of your eggs in one basket and watch that basket."

Did Carnegie mean to 'watch the basket' because others would steal your eggs? I don't think so. He never worried about that. Never concerned himself with the so-called 'competition'. If you work hard at being the best at what you focus on to do in life, you never have to worry about competition. The truth is, if you're the best, there is no competition.

I'm doing a small English training program here in Zhengzhou. I see the need for it. There is less than one-tenth of English training here by native English speakers as there is in Beijing or any other city of over 10 million people in China. The need here in Zhengzhou represents the opportunity to do something significant in English training.

Reminder quote: "Where there is a need, there is an opportunity."

I've surveyed the market, talked to hundreds of parents of school age children, talked to over 1,000 students as well as teachers and educational leaders. I understand the need in this market. I hear people talk about starting training centers, kindergartens, schools, etc. They say things like, 'its my dream to have a kindergarten.' Or, 'its my dream to have an English training center.' I've approached this quite differently. I've looked for the need here. My dream is to, 'meet the need.' The great Dr. Schuller in the USA said, "Find the need and fill it." I know what the need is. I'm focusing on it.

Later, I will add more educational opportunities for students in other areas. But, for now, I know what to focus upon.

The courage and guts to accomplish something worthwhile takes first, knowing what your target is. Until you discover that and make a decision to relentlessly pursue that target, you will meet with failure after failure and frustration upon frustration.

You are right, Michael.
Now I tell you a story.
I remembered there was such a composition in 1988 summer’s, or 1989, Chinese national college entrance examination, which was the given topic: Here is No Water, Let’s Turn to other New Ones. In this proposition thesis had a cartoon showing a group people who were digging well, but every time when here is nearly touching the water in the deep well, they gave up the arduous efforts, they had tired for not found out the urgently needed sweet water, they turned to next one, one after another. Finally they digged several half-finished and nearly finished wells but totally wasted, they said, “here is no water at all, let’s go”
Your analysis is quite suited to the current situation in our daily works and life. We need accurate market investigation and, then setup our goal or target to pursue.
When the decided target was given after fully investigation, here should be more energy and sweat to engage with. No complain about the short term gain and loss, persist to the aim and never give up, here will be sweet water waiting us to scoop.
Above is my personal view, perhaps not accommodate your original idea, if so, please give criticism.

where there is a will, there is a way.
where there is a life, there is a hope.
we need to learn to take life and its problem with a dash of humor as it comes to us and do everything we can to find its beauty.

Two sentences are classical "if you're the best, there is no competition" and "Where there is a need, there is an opportunity"!

  • The Story of Jeremy, Can Your Child Go To Harvard? Part 2 2017-8-17 23:15

Jaaja: Why? Because Harvard degree is indefinitely more useful in international career, than Peking University degree. PU only carries similar value inside C ...
Ture but most Chinese return to China Plus if your have not mastered English a degree from Harvard with a 75% average means nothing. Now if you end up in the top 10% of your class then by all means it is better. But really how many Chinese end up in the top 10% in any USA university? Maybe 1 out of 10,000.If you do not want to return to China then yes Harvard Degree is better.
