North Korea, My Pal, Listen To Me …

Popularity 7Viewed 5197 times 2013-1-25 22:04 |System category:News

You and I are good friends. Our friendship has lasted for a rather long time since it was established at the time when we fought shoulder to shoulder against our common enemies.

But now, over time things grow differently. I’ve been becoming stronger and stronger, and clearly, that is because I am open-minded and ready to absorb nutrients which are good for my growth. So, you’ll find my thoughts are different from those I adhered to, and shared with you, decades ago. You are still living in the dream of the past, and refuse to make any difference. In the end we are on diverged roads. We have different friends, styles, goals and ideals. We have more differences than similarities. I know you’re unsatisfied, or even angry, with me.

But I cherish our long-lasting friendship and hope to maintain it. That’s why I exerted myself to help you, to protect you, to fight for you at my peril. To tell you the truth, even today I’m still  ready to fight a war for your benefit if necessary, just as I did half a century ago. I know you harbor a deep prejudice against me, and you are not appreciative of all I’ve done for you, though you always accepted that. You need those help desperately, whatever it is, from food to security efforts. In your inner heart you must be happy you’ve got a friend like me who’d like to sacrifice so much for you. But on the surface, you appear at odds with me, and even openly quarrel with me. Frankly, I know why you’re doing so. You’re trying to make me to give you more! Just like a child, you’re crying for more sugars, with little knowledge how much toil I have to pay for those sugars. Let’s take what happened these two days as an example.

USA, one of your hideous enemies, took a lead in the UN to file a paper against you, under a plea of sanctioning you for rocket launching. I wielded my influence to soothe the furies of the majorities of UN members. I managed to make the sanction and the complaints become less aggressive. Otherwise, the counter-measures of the international society are sure to subject your people to more sufferings, and also disgrace you. I did it at the cost of other affairs on which I made a compromise. To my grief, you damned me today for not holding on my principles instead of saying thanks.

Even so, I’m still trying every means to understand you, my pal. You have got less and less friends in the international family and your people are suffering a lot. You feel lonely. You’re certain to deny that. But on the other hand, you know that’s fact. You’re making a try to do something about it, aren’t you? You’d like to open your mind and your country to the outside world. But you’re doing so with no confidence and with fear that you’ll lose control of the country.

I’ve told you, and now I guarantee you, you’ll have my support. I am on your side ever and forever. Long live our friendship!

I like this piece of writing. It gives the reader plenty opportunity to reflect on the subject.

Thanks! It's easy to understand for us Chinese to understand. What about foreigners? I'm not sure, and there is no response from them.

The 'I' in my writing is China, to be exact. Don't you think What the article speaks is a fact?  I myself am against this attitude towards North Korea.
North Korea is a hooligan, a cunning bastard, which is well-known to the whole world, including China. But China is helpless on the issure for several reasons: 1) China's basic diplomatic principles of peaceful resolution; 2) as you said, its role of a buffer state to China; and 3) China's limited military power and comprehensive state power, compared to USA and its allies.
So, though  it takes the slightest thought to make clear that North Korea is a rascal, and is bullying a titan of China, China can do nothing about it.

The relation between two all time neighbors sometimes is not easy, but it is the fact that there is no other friend and foe than the neighbour. This is mutual. But you couldn't throw the all time neighbour out. So, Hey!  don't quarrel!

It like a marriage problem, do you think there is hope to revive the marriage or file the papers for divorce? I believe the two Koreas can unify as one country, as long the outer influence stop poring more fuel to the fire, it can be done. The cold war should end in Asia too.

the point is that the outer influence will NOT stop pouring fuel to the fire, which, on th contrary, proves US-led ally is trying their best to achieve. Ending the cold war is just our wishful thinking!

Hi,
I am from England and registered here purely to reply to your thought about an understanding of your writing outside China.  I think it is a brilliantly incisive piece of writing.  It is easy to understand its concept and flows beautifully.  It not only gives a rare insight into both N Korea and China's position that is often buried under dramatic headlines by all countries.  Thank you.

Nicely written, my friend! I have often wondered how the people of China view the whole situation with the DPRK. I have spoken with my Chinese friends and colleagues and I have heard similar sentiments. I know that North Korea views the USA as an enemy, and that bothers me since I am an American. I know China can defend herself, but I still worry what North Korea may do.

China serves as an example to other nations in how she deals with North Korea. China is the oldest sibling in the family of Asia, and she takes that responsibility very seriously. She does not lord it over the others, but instead offers loving but firm guidance. She allows the others to make their own mistakes and learn from them, but will always strive to maintain harmony with the world. I feel that my own government could learn much from China.

Thank you for your comment. I'm very glad to see you've got an insight into the complicated relationship between China and its neighbour throught this writing. I'm not a specialist on this issue. I just spoke out what's in my mind.
Welcome to swap opinions.  Thanks again.

To be frank, your worries about DPRK are also mine, esp with the imminent alleged nuke test. I don't think that US-led ally will let it go, and China is willing to offer unselfish and wanton protection as before.Of course, China, on the other hand, will not lose control of the whole affair. She may be just want to give the sibling a lesson for the sake of stopping the Kin Government from going too far.

I see eye to eye with you on your remark about China's role in Asia. It's quite different from your government, mainly due to our different culture and philosophy, as well as geographical influence.
