Challenge towards Graduates.

Popularity 7Viewed 9660 times 2014-5-14 20:24 |System category:Economy| Money, Plant

Recently, in this CD forum we are having discussions about would be newly producing graduates. There are some 7.2 million fresh graduates will be certified. According to our blog colleague Colin Speakman’s words ‘‘they add to over 2 million from 2013 still seeking their meaningful work.’’

Rising unemployment and high competition in the labor market is going very tuff for new graduates. Because of limit possibilities and lots of applications the employers are failing to meet the goal.

Year by year shortage of work is challenging and the youth generation is falling to the depression. Such attitude is being worldwide, growing manpower but less job opportunities. For china to manage the new backbone is one challenge but for graduates also have same tough challenges ahead.

I would like to share some points to our upcoming co-workers. Sometimes a small point could be more valuable, let’s check my job hunting experience and suggestions could be useful for you.

How to be ‘Smart’ for the job

1-    Analysis of job: are you fit for that post or not? Are you capable to complete your responsibility if you selected for? What you want from company or what company wants from you? Where you are competing is that requires as your art, ability, professional capability and your chemistry with the company, does it matches? So list out it.

2-    Tally your character and company’s need: while you apply for job then need to find out the similarities between you and job provider. Lets’ examine your skill, educational certificate, experience, professional qualification, efficiency, required skills etc. tally

3-    Informed about company: where ever you apply for job, you must understand what the company is related and what types of characteristics of the office?

4-    Self-practice or preparation; while you are going to hunt the job, prepare yourself first. Because while having interview you have to show your confidence. For this you can search internet and for face to face confidence you can supported by family members, friends too.

5-    General things; though it is said general but important to expose your personality, such dress up, your presentation, meeting persons, your mental status, training certificates etc.

6-    keep patience; Its most important in the job seeking time while you are invited for interview as Your self-discipline, your respect, formality. Not to be confused, so Listen and ask, don’t talk unnecessary topic. Don’t hesitate to reply the questions.

It is true that money don’t blossom on the tree. (There is a plant named ‘Money Plant’ but its not real money producing plant).Where is the money destination?

Amid limit industries, production house, companies, institutions and rare sources we have to print out the money. For 1 vacancy there would be hundreds of competitors. Imbalances make the situation worst, so graduates production industry and the job holder companies need to have collaboration. Only the Certified unemployed manpower is misfortune for any nation.

Wish you all new energetic pioneers will get the mostly satisfying job and have the contribution to fulfill the china dream. Good luck.

As Chinese students, we really shoulder a lot pressure in terms of hunting jobs. On the one hand, we do not know what kind of job is most suitable and have no experience in this aspect. On the other hand, we are not willing to submmit to some low paying jobs , instead we all want to find fully decent jobs. By the way your experience and suggestions are very useful to us.

not only Chinese students, all around the new graduates have to face same situation at first. i also not sure of my job at first would it be favorable for me or not? but little by little my experience made me confident. since 13 years i have been working as a radio journalist. actually i don't know the real base of job in china but in my context if i won't get job i would go back to my village and help parents to help in own farm though villagers could back byte-''one's son graduates from the university and came back to work in the farm. . but where work is worshiped it is always great.

when we don't know what to do, the best solution is just to do something. It may be difficult for somebody to figure out what is their favourite thing. i think only take your first step, then you may know you like it or dislike. time will tell you everything. just as you say to me before : man man lai

The lowest paying job is an unpaid internship .. Yet it can be worth its weight in gold as a stepping stone to a career. IF employers are saying to some graduates: the problem is, you have no work experience and they keep saying: the problem is you have no work experience! , then the probability is that: the problem is that you have no work experience! How many times does a graduate need to hear this? If you believe that the work experience will add to your chances, go out and get it. Hey, in a low paid job is better than in an unpaid job! Your first job and first wage does NOT define you for life!  See one of my graduate market posts about: the problem of the reserve price of labour. Time passes, things change, need to adjust to realities of the market!

Absolutely, getting some work experience is better than doing nothing. It can tell you what jobs do do not like. Do not think that your first job is going to be your perfect job, and do not be too proud to start at the bottom. Some amazingly successful people did!

Thanks for the reference Cai-Shen!  Yes the 9 million is important and not to discourage new graduates, but do not be TOO proud to take certain job opportunities. Yes, in getting your degree after so much hard work, you are a special person. Yet there are 9 million of these special people looking for graduate work. You consider a civil service job. The chances are there are more than 1,000 applicants for each such job. All special, but that is not enough! 1,000 special people are not going to get that job.  Have courage, set a high long term goal, but please do not be too proud about your first job! Or you might not get one!

I would like to increase Cai-Shen's great 6 points to an auspicious 8 points with two more suggestions. I like all 6!  No 7. Practice in advance answers to common interview questions. Firstly, this way you can meet Cai-Shen's advice: Do not hesitate to answer questions. I write as someone how has hired many people, interviewed many, many more, and fired a few! So typical questions: What attracts you to work for this company? Where do you see yourself in five years' time? How would you describe your work style with colleagues? What are you most motivated by? What do you think are your best qualities? It is sadly amazing how many candidates stumble or give poor answers to such questions. So think them through. No. 8 . Research the travel to the company and its location before the day of interview. Arriving late is one of the worst things to do. Yes, the company may be hard to find, hidden away in a Hutong, but what the prospective employer likes to see is that you overcame that challenge, not that you used it as an excuse! Be SMART!

most of the new job-holders who can easily adjust and familiar with co-workers, get support from the company. being familiar and soft is a kind of gaining. rudeness cannot lead the bright career.

Yes, that is my main point. A low paid job for experience is better than an unpaid internship. Hiowever in the English speaking media we do see classified advertising section jobs which require someone to intern (no pay) for 3 or 6 months then they will get pay. Quite common in start-up companies as they do not have much cash flow. Not common in big established companies!

Being your honest self, you will attract the people who appreciate you for what you are. Sometimes the issue you talk/write about, and the way you write about will resonate with a lot of people. The numbers will vary. But you need to be clear what is your more important goal - to be wealthy and famous quickly talking and writing or develop a following who appreciate your honesty... Don't feel  too disheartened if your expectations from your work do not work out in material terms, so long as you keep growing your audience.
