Are we being assaulted?

Popularity 8Viewed 8492 times 2016-6-7 10:54 |Personal category:Life health|System category:News| Salt, blood pressure, health risks

This is not about a physical attack but an attack with salt! In the old days folks who bought a packet of crisps (chips to Americans) hunted inside for a little blue bag - that was the salt - People had a choice whether to add it! Then along came ready salted crisps and many flavours - we got our salt whether we wanted it or not. Now western diets are packed with salt in everything from pizzas and soups to meats in the delicatessen, hamburgers and tasty dips -This is far more sodium than we need each day. Data show that the average American consumes 50 percent more sodium than recommended by health professionals. In over three dozen countries guidelines have been introduced, or are in the process of, to cut salt intake in foods. Some US companies have already cut salt levels in processed foods and the Food And Drug Administration in USA last week issued draft guidelines to major food manufacturers and big chain restaurants, to cut average salt consumption by a third - The dangers of excessive intake of sodium include heart attacks and strokes. Between 2003 and 2011, the UK cut sodium intake by 15 percent and saw a substantial decline in such illnesses. However some restaurant chains say their customers demand salt for taste and do not like the healthier versions. Well surely it is easier to add salt if desired to food already served with low sodium content than to remove high sodium form a meal once served. Bring back the blue bag and give folks a choice! How does all this play out in China? It is not normal to see salt on the table in Chinese restaurant but there is plenty added to food including China's ncreasng taste for western foods. Snacks in western style bars include salted crisps and salted peanuts - of course these make you stay thirsty and drink more! Things need to change.- let's stop beng assaulted

Right. We have been "assulted" in lots of things such as paying coins in some of the public toilets, second-hand smoking and so on.

I stayed at downtown Zhengzhou for three days, what I most thirty for is water, water, drinkable water. I found that our city doesn't short of table salt, you don't need to add sodium to your food, no matter it's noodle, dishes or Roujiamo, the eateries are well serviced  in every foodstuff they are offering. But you can buy water freely, the bottled drinking water it is very cheap usually one yun per bottle, and if you want to keep your throat not to be burnt off then five to six bottles of water can make you quite like a gentleman.

Now, I am still on the recovering process from the thirsty, half of barrel of water is nearly be finished up to now, I know I can take some more this afternoon, thank god, I am home now, since i have a plenty of water in my home.

The following is my early blog on the similar topic!

                                              Salt is salty and bitter

According to the dictionary, salt is a kind white substance that you add to food and let it give out its taste.

Yes, salt is really a good thing and human can not live without it. If there is not enough salt in your food, you may feel that you do not have strength to do labor-work;  on the other hand, if you eat too much salty food, the result would be very bad! ------let me tell you a sad story that has taken place in our neighborhood:

Working as a teacher in that kindergarten, the twenty-three-year-old girl looks so lovely, since she always smiles whenever you see her.

One day, I had a chance that I visited her rented house where her sick mother lives:since seven years ago, she has been lying in bed due to the disease of cerebral hemorrhage!-----her health condition is not bad---- She often does physical exercise even in bed and her face looks as normal as ordinary people so that you can hardly believe that she has been ill for so long!------I respect the lovely girl WHO has taken care of mother as doctor and nurse!

You may ask me where her father is, the girl told me: “ He left me three years ago, because of stomach-cancer!”

How sad it is! I think the God may be unfair to the family, the couple became ill at the age of 55 or so! What is the real reason behind the sad story?  Did they have any bad habit?

When the girl cooked dish for family, I saw that: she added too much salt to the dish! -----the amount was about five times as much as I expected!

Now, you may see that the real trouble-maker might be the salt!:

Too much of it is harmful the blood-vessel of the brain,-----her mother got sick;

Salty food adds too much burden to stomach,-----her father’s illness was cancer!

I had a long talk with the girl and her boyfriend about cooking, ……

One month later, I met with the girl on the road,------ she waved to me with sweet smile and tell me: “I use less salt than before, thank you!”

Dear blogger friends, what is your opinion about this, welcome to make comment!

USA - the food companies want citizens hooked on their food - taste above health

Frozen foods and canned goods - the staple of American (and UK?) cuisines are jam-packed with salt! One frozen dinner (Marie Callender's) contains a whopping 28 grams of salt!
Salt is used in pickling and preserving foods as well, so that vacuum-packed boiled egg (or chicken foot, loved by so many Chinese) most likely contains the recommended daily dose of salt. It will be hard to get away from excess salting as long as processed foods remain staple.

I understood that in China more use is made of monosodium glutomate than salt. Both are unhealthy if taken to excess.

At your trial Colin Speak Man, all the prosecutor needs to say is - Before the rebellion Colin Speak Man wrote this - "Sir Richard Branson is a role model entrepreneur and innovator and I have enjoyed reading his autobiographies and I am looking forward to his latest one when I am back in London mid August. He adds great value to the Virgin Brand. Yet he has passed the traditional retirement age in the UK though that means nothing these days and he shows no signs of slowing down." - Colin Speak Man.
